Analysis of Lipophilic Extractives from Fast Pyrolysis Bio-Oils

Fast pyrolysis bio-oils (FPBOs) originating from forest residues contain extractive-derived substances, which may form a separate, sticky layer with char particles on the surface of these bio-oils. In this study, first, the removal of extractive-derived substances from the bio-oil top phase was studied by common solvents with different polarities. In this case, the results indicated that when aimed at the maximum yield of single-phase fuel oil and thus the maximum amount of extractives removed, the use of n-heptane or n-hexane seems to be of benefit for this purpose. Artikkeli on kokonaisuudessaan ensimmäinen laatuaan Suomessa ja se esittelee tutkimuksen tuloksia koskien Akseli Gallen-Kallelan käyttämiä väriaineita. Tutkimusaineisto on läpileikkaus taiteilijan taiteellisesta tuotannosta vuosilta 1880–1929. Se koostuu 265:stä maalauksesta ja 83:sta öljy- ja temperavärituubista. Tutkimuksessa käytetyt analyysimentelmät ovat ainetta tuhoamattomia luonnontieteellisiä analyysimenetelmiä: energiadispersiivinen röntgenfluoresenssi spektroskopia (EDXRF) ja polarisaatiomikroskopia (PLM).

Tutkimuksessa tutkittiin raakaöljymarkkinoiden rakennemuutoksia ja futuurimarkkinoiden tehokkuutta ja pyrittiin selvittämään, ovatko raakaöljyn futuurimarkkinat tehokkaat, onko raakaöljymarkkinoilla havaittavia rakennemuutoksia ja onko raakaöljymarkkinoiden rakennemuutoksilla vaikutusta futuurimarkkinoiden tehokkuuteen. Aineistona käytettiin Brent- ja WTI-raakaöljylaatujen spot- ja futuurihintasarjoja ajanjaksolta 24.6.1988 – 19.1.2017. Base oil production from crude oil has become more complex as demanded product properties, yield objective and field competition have increased interest in research towards high viscosity index (VI) base oils. Does corn market uncertainty impact the US ethanol prices?

The growing interest in biofuel as a green energy source has intensified the linkages between corn and ethanol markets, especially in the United States that represents the largest producing and exporting country for ethanol in the world. In this study, we examine the effect of corn market uncertainty on the price changes of US ethanol applying a set of GARCH-jump models. We find that the US ethanol price changes react positively to the corn market volatility shocks after controlling for the effect of oil price uncertainty. Caraway seeds contain between 0.5–7% essential oil, rich in monoterpenes that have a characteristic aroma and chemical properties. Caraway oil has several bioactive compounds that are of industrial importance, particularly for pharmaceutical and health care products. Carvone and limonene are the main terpenes present in caraway oil, which along with some unique fatty acids (i.e. petroselinic acid) determine caraway (Carum carvi L.) oil quality.
