Structure of rotational bands in 253No

2009

In-beam gamma-ray and conversion electron spectroscopic studies have been performed on the 253 No nucleus. A strongly coupled rotational band has been identified and the improved statistics allows an assignment of the band structure as built on the $\ensuremath 9/2^-[734]_{\nu}$ ground state. The results agree with previously known transition energies but disagree with the tentative structural assignments made in earlier work.

High-spin states in the neutron-rich A∼100 region

2009

Two experimental setups have been used to study excited states of neutron‐rich nuclei in the A∼100 region. Extended level schemes and lifetime measurements were obtained using deep‐inelastic and fusion‐fission reactions with the CLARA‐PRISMA spectrometer and the Ge‐array GASP respectively. Experimental information from GASP has been used to complement the CLARA‐PRISMA experiment. Time spectra have been used to measure the lifetimes of isomeric states. Preliminary results are presented for 89Rb.

γ‐Agregation operators and some aspects of generalized aggregation problem

We explore questions related to the aggregation operators and aggregation of fuzzy sets. No preliminary knowledge of the aggregation operators theory and of the fuzzy sets theory are required, because all necessary information is given in Section 2. Later we introduce a new class of γ‐aggregation operators, which “ignore” arguments less than γ. Due to this property γ‐aggregation operators simplify the aggregation process and extend the area of possible applications. Discovery of γ-secretase modulators with a novel activity profile by text-based virtual screening.

We present an integrated approach to identify and optimize a novel class of γ-secretase modulators (GSMs) with a unique pharmacological profile. Our strategy included (i) virtual screening through application of a recently developed protocol (PhAST), (ii) synthetic chemistry to discover structure–activity relationships, and (iii) detailed in vitro pharmacological characterization. GSMs are promising agents for treatment or prevention of Alzheimer’s disease. Absorption band at 7.6 eV induced by γ-irradiation in silica glasses

Optical absorption of defects induced by γ-irradiation in both natural and synthetic silica is experimentally investigated in the vacuum-ultraviolet (UV) range. Our results show that γ-rays, in a dose range of 1000 Mrad, induce an absorption band centered at 7.6 eV, the so-called E band, whose growth kinetics is not related to γ-activated precursors but to defects of the glassy matrix directly induced via the breaking of Si–O bonds occurring under γ-irradiation. Moreover, we observe that γ-rays do not bleach the E band present in some silica samples before irradiation, so ruling out that the associated defects can be precursors of the paramagnetic E′ centers, also induced by γ-irradiation.
