On modified α-ϕ-fuzzy contractive mappings and an application to integral equations

Abstract We introduce the notion of a modified α-ϕ-fuzzy contractive mapping and prove some results in fuzzy metric spaces for such kind of mappings. The theorems presented provide a generalization of some interesting results in the literature. Two examples and an application to integral equations are given to illustrate the usability of our theory.

Jet fragmentation transverse momentum distributions in pp and p-Pb collisions at √s, √sNN = 5.02 TeV

Jet fragmentation transverse momentum (jT) distributions are measured in proton-proton (pp) and proton-lead (p-Pb) collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV with the ALICE experiment at the LHC. Jets are reconstructed with the ALICE tracking detectors and electromagnetic calorimeter using the anti-kT algorithm with resolution parameter R = 0.4 in the pseudorapidity range |η| < 0.25. The jT values are calculated for charged particles inside a fixed cone with a radius R = 0.4 around the reconstructed jet axis. The measured jT distributions are compared with a variety of parton-shower models. Herwig and Pythia 8 based models describe the data well for the higher jT region, while they underestimate the low…

Revisiting the Etymology of Greek mégas, megàle, méga

Despite the numerous attempts at clarification that have been made over the past hundred years or so, there are still many doubts surrounding the etymology of Gr. μέγας, μεγάλη, μέγα “big, great, mighty”, especially with regard to the relation between the Greek adjective and forms attested in other Indo-European languages. The paper follows a new track. By having recourse to É. Benveniste’s theory of the structure of the Indo-European root, a stem II *sm-eĝ- is supposed in which *s- could share the characteristics of the so-called ‘mobile s-’. Thanks to this hypothesis most of the pre-existing doubts are dispelled.

Hydrothermal methane fluxes from the soil at Lakki plain (Nisyros Island, Greece)

Μετρήσεις φυσικής ροής μεθανίου και διοξειδίου του άνθρακα από το έδαφος πραγματοποιήθηκαν με τη μέθοδο συγκέντρωσης θαλάμου στην περιοχή Λακκί της Καλδέρας της Νισύρου, καλύπτοντας έκταση περίπου 0.06 km2 συμπεριλαμβάνοντας τις περιοχές Καμινάκια, Στέφανος και Αλέξανδρο όπου παρατηρείται έντονη ατμιδική δραστηριότητας. Οι τιμές ροής που μετρήθηκαν σε 77 σημεία κυμαίνονται από –3.4 μέχρι 1420 mg m-2 d-1 για το CH4 και από 0.1, μέχρι 383 g m-2 d-1 για το CO2. Στις τρεις ατμιδικές περιοχές παρουσιάζονται διαφορετικοί ρυθμοί διαφυγής μεθανίου, ιδίως στα Καμινάκια όπου προέκυψαν οι μεγαλύτερες τιμές ροής. This thesis focuses on the study of the neutral pion and eta production in the Au+Au &ldquo;low-energy&rdquo;collisions at &radic;sNN = 39 and 62.4 GeV.The &eta;/&pi;0 ratio was reconstructed in Au+Au minimum bias collisions at &radic;sNN = 62.4 GeV up to pT &lt; 7 GeV/c. The direct photons were reconstructed via the subtraction method using two different PID cuts up to pT &lt; 10 GeV/c in Au+Au minimum bias collisions at &radic;sNN = 62.4 GeV.

Το σύνθετο γεωδυναμικό καθεστώς της Ελλάδας πηγάζει από την πολύπλοκη γεωλογική της ιστορία, η οποία χαρακτηρίζεται από έντονη σεισμική δραστηριότητα και ενισχυμένη γεωθερμική βαθμίδα. Αυτή η δραστηριότητα σε συνδυασμό με το ενεργό ηφαιστειακό τόξο, ευνοεί την ύπαρξη πολλών εκπομπών αερίων, με αποτέλεσμα την κατηγοριοποίηση σε CO2-, N2- και CH4-αέρια, ανάλογα με το επικρατών είδος. Η παρούσα εργασία επικεντρώνεται στο μεθάνιο και τους ελαφρούς υδρογονάνθρακες (C2-C6) με σκοπό τον προσδιορισμό της προέλευσή τους. Attraverso un’analisi dell’espressione ἁβρὰ παθεῖν nel frammento 24 W. di Solone e di alcune ricorrenze eschilee dei derivati della radice ἁβρ- (Pers. 41, 135, 541, 543, 1073, Ag. 690-1, 918-20) questo lavoro si inserisce nel dibattito critico esistente intorno alla nozione di ἁβροσύνη, alle implicazioni ad essa connesse in quanto segno di prestigio sociale, e ai modi in cui essa fu percepita nel contesto culturale ateniese del V secolo.
