The role of the building sector for reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gases: An Italian case study

2013

The paper presents one of the first Italian experiences assessing the effectiveness of sustainable production and consumption strategies. The authors developed an energy and environmental extended input–output model, combined with the life cycle assessment, to analyse the role of the building sector in the reduction of Italian energy consumption and CO2 emissions. In detail, the model allows to assess the energy and environmental benefits arising from the Italian tax deduction policy for energy retrofit actions of buildings. Moreover, the authors defined an original model to assess the indirect rebound effect caused by the energy retrofit actions. The outcomes of the research point out that…

Application of the Structural Decomposition Analysis to assess the indirect energy consumption and air emission changes related to Italian households…

2012

Abstract The design of sustainable production and consumption strategies and the assessment of implemented actions require to identify the driving forces that influence the trend of energy consumption and environmental impacts. For this purpose, the Structural Decomposition Analysis (SDA) was developed as a suitable methodology to analyse the driving forces of the changes in economic, energy and environmental indicators. The paper presents one of the first Italian studies that apply an energy and environmental extended input–output model, opportunely shaped to the examined context, combined with SDA. In detail, it aims at: (1) investigating the energy use and the air emissions arisen from t…

Corporate governance and firm performance: A comparative analysis of auditing problems

2006

The recent financial crises have created a new debate about comparison and convergence of different systems of corporate governance. In particular, they have underlined poor efficiency of rule structures to achieve a good relationship between different stakeholder’s rights. In line with many studies of corporate governance that emphasize the manager-stakeholders relationship as explained by agency theory, in this paper, I analyse the role of auditing as an incentive device to reduce contractual or transaction costs related to asymmetric information.Considering as a benchmark the recent US Sarbanes Oxley Act of July 2002. I describe a set of auditing principles by comparing common and civil …

Spin-orbit coupling constants from coupled-cluster response theory

2000

A scheme for the calculation of spin-orbit coupling constants using coupled-cluster (CC) electronic structure methods is described based on response-theory expressions for transition properties. An implementation is reported for singlet–triplet transitions within the coupled-cluster singles and doubles (CCSD) approximation. An atomic mean-field representation of the spin-orbit interaction is used to simplify the calculation of spin-orbit coupling constants. Sample calculations are presented for spin-orbit couplings for the 11Σ+→13Π transitions for BH and AlH and for the 11A′→13A″ and the 13A″→11A″ transitions for the silylenes HSiX, X=F, Cl, Br, and are compared to results obtained from ful…

Spin-orbit-torque-induced skyrmion dynamics for different types of spin-orbit coupling

2018

Abstract We investigate current-induced skyrmion dynamics in the presence of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction and spin-orbit spin-transfer torque corresponding to various types of spin-orbit coupling. We determine the symmetries of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction and spin-orbit spin-transfer torque based on linear spin-orbit coupling model. We find that like interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (Rashba spin-orbit coupling) and bulk Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (Weyl spin-orbit coupling), Dresselhaus spin-orbit coupling also has a possibility for stabilizing skyrmion and current-induced skyrmion dynamics.

A step further in the comprehension of the magnetic coupling in gadolinium(III)-based carboxylate complexes

2013

Three new gadolinium(III) complexes of formula [Gd4(bta) 3(H2O)16]n·12nH2O (1), [Gd4(bta)3(H2O)12] n·18nH2O (2) and [Gd2(H 2bta)(bta)(H2O)2]n·4nH 2O (3) (H4bta = 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylic acid) have been synthesized and their structures determined by X-ray diffraction. 1 and 3 are three-dimensional compounds whereas 2 exhibits a two-dimensional structure. The ability of the bta4- to adopt different coordination modes accounts for these high dimensionalities although it precludes a rational structural design. The structures of 1-3 have in common the double oxo-carboxylate bridge between gadolinium(III) ions (μ-O: κ2O,O′) either as a discrete units (1 and 2) or as a chain (3) and one (3)…

The Asynchronous Leontief Model

1992

International audience; The traditional dynamic Leontief model is synchronous: every vertex acts simultaneously. A model with delays of action has been proposed, but it still remains synchronous. In this paper we propose an asynchronous version of the model that allows realistic computations. We fiurnish an algorithm and a program.

Sobolev classes of Banach space-valued functions and quasiconformal mappings

2001

We give a definition for the class of Sobolev functions from a metric measure space into a Banach space. We give various characterizations of Sobolev classes and study the absolute continuity in measure of Sobolev mappings in the “borderline case”. We show under rather weak assumptions on the source space that quasisymmetric homeomorphisms belong to a Sobolev space of borderline degree; in particular, they are absolutely continuous. This leads to an analytic characterization of quasiconformal mappings between Ahlfors regular Loewner spaces akin to the classical Euclidean situation. As a consequence, we deduce that quasisymmetric maps respect the Cheeger differentials of Lipschitz functions …
