Some emerging risk factors such as oxidative stress biomarkers and microRNAs (miRs) may add additional value to the established risk factors for peripheral artery disease (PAD). We enrolled 27 patients with PAD and 27 age-matched controls. We examined the levels of a series of miRs (miR-130a, miR-27b, and miR-210) in serum samples. The level of well-established oxidative stress biomarkers, such as lipid hydroperoxides, isoprostanes, hemeoxygenase-1 (HO-1) and reduced glutathione, was also measured in plasma and their relationship with the miRs was determined. Abstract Introduction Carboplatin is the milestone of epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) treatment, thus response to platinum is the major prognostic factor. Among platinum-sensitive patients, 40% carry a germline or somatic BRCA1/2 mutation. Prognostic use of soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 and placental growth factor in patients with coronary artery disease.

Background: Intention of the study is to assess the cardiovascular mortality of patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) with the biomarkers of angiogenesis PlGF and its endogenous inhibitor sFlt-1. Methods: The cohort included n = 1848 patients with CAD and 282 subjects without CAD. In 85 patients cardiovascular mortality, as combination of fatal myocardial infarction or any cardiac death, during a median follow-up duration of 3.9 years was reported. Results: In Kaplan–Meier curve analysis PlGF in rising thirds was not predictive regarding outcome (p = 0.54), the same was shown for sFlt-1 (p = 0.44). Spinocerebellar ataxia type-1 (SCA1) is caused by an abnormally expanded polyglutamine (polyQ) tract in ataxin-1. These expansions are responsible for protein misfolding and self-assembly into intranuclear inclusion bodies (IIBs) that are somehow linked to neuronal death. Nutritional control of IL-23/Th17-mediated autoimmune disease through HO-1/STAT3 activation

AbstractThe nutritional curcumin (CUR) is beneficial in cell-mediated autoimmune diseases. The molecular mechanisms underlying this food-mediated silencing of inflammatory immune responses are poorly understood. By investigating antigen-specific immune responses we found that dietary CUR impairs the differentiation of Th1/Th17 cells in vivo during encephalomyelitis and instead promoted Th2 cells. In contrast, feeding CUR had no inhibitory effect on ovalbumin-induced airway inflammation. Mechanistically, we found that CUR induces an anti-inflammatory phenotype in dendritic cells (DC) with enhanced STAT3 phosphorylation and suppressed expression of Il12b and Il23a.
