Orientation theory in arithmetic geometry

2016

This work is devoted to study orientation theory in arithmetic geometric within the motivic homotopy theory of Morel and Voevodsky. The main tool is a formulation of the absolute purity property for an \emph{arithmetic cohomology theory}, either represented by a cartesian section of the stable homotopy category or satisfying suitable axioms. We give many examples, formulate conjectures and prove a useful property of analytical invariance. Within this axiomatic, we thoroughly develop the theory of characteristic and fundamental classes, Gysin and residue morphisms. This is used to prove Riemann-Roch formulas, in Grothendieck style for arbitrary natural transformations of cohomologies, and a …

Algebraic models of the Euclidean plane

2018

We introduce a new invariant, the real (logarithmic)-Kodaira dimension, that allows to distinguish smooth real algebraic surfaces up to birational diffeomorphism. As an application, we construct infinite families of smooth rational real algebraic surfaces with trivial homology groups, whose real loci are diffeomorphic to $\mathbb{R}^2$, but which are pairwise not birationally diffeomorphic. There are thus infinitely many non-trivial models of the euclidean plane, contrary to the compact case.

8000 years of coastal changes on a western Mediterranean island: A multiproxy approach from the Posada plain of Sardinia

2018

Abstract A multi-proxy palaeoenvironmental investigation was conducted to reconstruct the Holocene history of coastal landscape change in the lower Posada coastal plain of eastern Sardinia. In the Mediterranean region, coastal modifications during the Holocene have been driven by a complex interplay between climate, geomorphological processes and human activity. In this paper, millennial-scale human-sea level-environment interactions are investigated near Posada, one of the largest coastal plains in eastern Sardinia. Biostratigraphic and palynological approaches were used to interpret the chrono-stratigraphy exhibited by a series of new cores taken from the coastal plain. This new study elu…

Adaptive Multi-agent System Based on Wasp-Like Behaviour for the Virtual Learning Game Sotirios

2018

The aim of this paper is to propose a model for an adaptive multi-agent system based on wasp-like behaviour for dynamic allocation of puzzles and quests in the virtual learning game SOTIRIOS. This is a digital learning game integrated inside a First Person Shooter designed by the second author of this paper. The learning process is based on many puzzles hidden in the game flow. The multi-agent system is necessary to integrate a multiplayer mode into the game. The agents use wasp task allocation behaviour, combined with a model of wasp dominance hierarchy in order to create a unique multiplayer learning system, where each user has a different learning curve, based on his results. The wasp be…

Concept of Client-Server Environment for Agent-Based Modeling and Simulation of Living Systems

2015

In the paper a concept for integrated and simple-to-use agent-based modeling and simulation environment is presented. The modeling environment allows simulating massive agent-based systems. Modeling environment itself is not domain specific, but it is expandable and allows creating domain-specific models. Hierarchical environment structure is supported. Individual agents could evolve by its individual path and pace. We use the General Living Systems theory as a reference model to check whether proposed modeling and simulation environment may also be used to describe models of living systems that are most complex systems around. The main concepts of proposed modeling environment such as agen…

Quantum Chemical Parametrization and Spectroscopic Characterization of the Frenkel Exciton Hamiltonian for a J-Aggregate Forming Perylene Bisimide Dye

2012

Quantum chemical and quantum dynamical calculations are performed for a bay-substituted perylene bisimide dye up to its hexameric aggregate. The aggregate structure is determined by employing the self-consistent charge density functional tight-binding (SCC-DFTB) approach including dispersion corrections. It is characterized by a stabilization via two chains of hydrogen bonds facilitated by amide functionalities. Focusing on the central embedded dimer, the Coulomb coupling for this J-aggregate is determined by means of the time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) to be -514 cm(-1). Exciton vibrational coupling is treated within the shifted oscillator model from which five strongly co…

A multi-agent decision support system for dynamic supply chain organization

2011

In this work, a multi-agent system (MAS) for supply chain dynamic con- figuration is proposed. The brain of each agent is composed of a Bayesian Decision Network (BDN); this choice allows the agent for taking the best decisions esti- mating benefits and potential risks of different strategies, analyzing and managing uncertain information about the collaborating companies. Each agent collects infor- mation about customer’s orders and current market prices, and analyzes previous experiences of collaborations with trading partners. The agent therefore performs a probabilistic inferential reasoning to filter information modeled in its knowledge base in order to achieve the best performance in t…

A Multi-touch Interface for Multi-robot Path Planning and Control

2014

In the last few years, research in human-robot interaction has moved beyond the issues concerning the design of the interaction between a person and a single robot. Today many researchers have shifted their focus toward the problem of how humans can control a multi-robot team. The rising of multi-touch devices provides a new range of opportunities in this sense. Our research seeks to discover new insights and guidelines for the design of multi-touch interfaces for the control of biologically inspired multi-robot teams. We have developed an iPad touch interface that lets users exert partial control over a set of autonomous robots. The interface also serves as an experimental platform to stud…

A possible approach for implementing self-awareness in JASON

2013

In Philosophy, the term awareness is often associated to theories of consciousness and self-referential behavior. In computer science, the awareness is a topic of increasing relevance in both Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence, being closely related to autonomy and proactiveness.,We can distinguish two orders of awareness: the first order is the awareness of the environment also known as context-awareness; conversely, self-awareness is a higher order awareness (knowledge about one's own mental states).,Nowadays, many agent oriented languages offer native instruments to implement context-awareness. However, self-awareness is not adequately supported and it requires further cons…
