Joint Alignment and Modeling of Correlated Behavior Streams
2013
The Variable Time-Shift Hidden Markov Model (VTS- HMM) is proposed for learning and modeling pairs of cor- related streams. Unlike previous coupled models for time series, the VTS-HMM accounts for varying time shifts be- tween correlated events in pairs of streams having different properties. The VTS-HMM is learned on a set of pairs of unaligned streams and, thus, learning entails simultaneous estimation of the varying time shifts and of the parameters of the model. The formulation is demonstrated in the analysis of videos of dyadic social interactions between children and adults in the Multimodal Dyadic Behavior Dataset (MMDB). In dyadic social interactions, an agent starts an interaction …
Vascular Contraction Model Based on Multi-agent Systems
2017
This paper presents a first approximation to the simulation of vascular smooth muscle cell following an agent-based simulation approach. This simulation incorporates mathematical models that describe the behaviour of these cells, which are used by the agents in order to emulate vascular contraction. A first tool, implemented in Netlogo, is provided to allow the performance of the proposed simulation.
Common and Domain-specific Metamodel Elements for Problem Description in Simulation Problems
2014
It is well known that the multi-agent system paradigm is well suited for modelling and developing simulations of complex systems belonging to several application domains. Simulation study aims at developing simulation models useful for representing, studying and analyzing entities and their behavior in a system according to specific purposes. With our work we are trying to understand what are the right elements to be considered and included in the description of a simulation problem. In order to root our resulting metamodel in the state of the art of multi-agent simulations we started from the study of twelve papers dealing with four different application domains: Crowd Dynamics, Traffic an…
Generating and Instantiating Abstract Workflows with QoS User Requirements
2017
The growing availability of services accessible through the network makes it possible to build complex applications resulting from their composition that are usually characterized also by non-functional properties, known as Quality of Service (QoS). To exploit the full potential of service technology, automatic QoS-based composition of services is crucial. In this work a framework for automatic service composition is presented that relies on planning and service negotiation techniques for addressing both functional and non-functional requirements. The proposed approach allows for dynamic service composition and QoS attributes, and it can be applied when services are provided in the contest …
Mechanism of Antibacterial Activity via Morphology Change of α-AgVO3: Theoretical and Experimental Insights
2017
The electronic configuration, morphology, optical features, and antibacterial activity of metastable α-AgVO3 crystals have been discussed by a conciliation and association of the results acquired by experimental procedures and first-principles calculations. The α-AgVO3 powders were synthesized using a coprecipitation method at 10, 20, and 30 °C. By using a Wulff construction for all relevant low-index surfaces [(100), (010), (001), (110), (011), (101), and (111)], the fine-tuning of the desired morphologies can be achieved by controlling the values of the surface energies, thereby lending a microscopic understanding to the experimental results. The as-synthesized α-AgVO3 crystals display a …
Hydration and dehydration kinetics of xylazine hydrochloride
2009
From the experiments where mixture of xylazine hydrochloride hydrate H and anhydrous X were held at constant conditions, the stable form of xylazine hydrochloride can be found out. To determine equilibrium relative humidity, the unstable form of xylazine hydrochloride was inserted in thermostated humidity chamber and its weight was recorded by weighing the sample outside the chamber. The kinetic model and the rate constant for each condition were determined. The rate constants give information regarding the speed of the process at every experimentally used relative humidity. Thus using the data in coordinates k – p for each temperature it is possible to determine the water vapor pressure of…
The relative stability of xylazine hydrochloride polymorphous forms
2009
All four known xylazine hydrochloride polymorphous forms were obtained and their relative stabilities were compared directly at three different temperatures. At higher temperatures, it is possible to determine the relative stability of all forms directly by measuring the changes in the composition of the mixtures of two polymorphous forms using powder x-ray diffraction methods. At lower temperatures, a solvent was added to the mixture and the changes in composition were determined. Polymorph transition temperatures were determined directly. To predict the transition temperature which was not found using the direct method, the polymorph melting data and determined transition temperatures wer…
Torsion of a finite base locus
2018
We interpret geometrically the torsion of the symmetric algebra of the ideal sheaf of a zero-dimensional scheme Z defined by $n+1$ equations in an $n$-dimensional variety. This leads us to generalise a formula of A.Dimca and S.Papadima in positive characteristic for a rational transformation with finite base locus. Among other applications, we construct an explicit example of a homaloidal curve of degree $5$ in characteristic $3$, answering negatively a question of A.V.D\'oria, S.H.Hassanzadeh and A.Simis.
Modeling and Coordination of interconnected microgrids using distributed artificial intelligence approaches
2019
As renewable sources penetrate the current electrical system to relief global warming and energy shortage, microgrid (MG) emerges to reduce the impact of intermittent generation on the utility grid. Additionally, it improves the automation and intelligence of the power grid with plug-and-play characteristics. Inserting more MGs into a distribution network promotes the development of the smart grid. Thus MG networks existing in the power system are in prospect. Coordinating them could gain a system with high reliability, low cost, and strong resistance to electrical faults. Achieving these profits relies on developed technologies of communication, control strategy, and corresponding algorith…

2022
We construct real rational quasi-projective surfaces with positive dimensional algebraic moduli of mutually non-isomorphic real forms.
