Diagrammatic Expansion for Positive Spectral Functions in the Steady-State Limit

Recently, a method was presented for constructing self-energies within many-body perturbation theory that are guaranteed to produce a positive spectral function for equilibrium systems, by representing the self-energy as a product of half-diagrams on the forward and backward branches of the Keldysh contour. We derive an alternative half-diagram representation that is based on products of retarded diagrams. Our approach extends the method to systems out of equilibrium. When a steady-state limit exists, we show that our approach yields a positive definite spectral function in the frequency domain.

Simplified feedback control system for scanning tunneling microscopy

A Scanning Tunneling Microscope (STM) is one of the most important scanning probe tools available to study and manipulate matter at the nanoscale. In a STM, a tip is scanned on top of a surface with a separation of a few \AA. Often, the tunneling current between tip and sample is maintained constant by modifying the distance between the tip apex and the surface through a feedback mechanism acting on a piezoelectric transducer. This produces very detailed images of the electronic properties of the surface. The feedback mechanism is nearly always made using a digital processing circuit separate from the user computer. Hexacarbonyls of Mo, W, and Sg: Metal–CO Bonding Revisited

Calculations of the first bond dissociation energies (FBDEs) and other molecular properties of M(CO)6, where M = Mo, W, and Sg, have been performed using a variety of nonrelativistic and relativistic methods, such as ZORA-DFT, X2c+AMFI-CCSD(T), and Dirac–Coulomb density functional theory. The aim of the study is to assist experiments on the measurements of the FBDE of Sg(CO)6. Benchmark scalar-relativistic coupled-cluster calculations for dissociation energies of the 20 diatomic molecules containing 3d transition metals in the 3dMLBE20 database ( J. Chem. Theory Comput. 2015 , 11 , 2036 ) are reported. Electron correlation and basis set effects are systematically studied. The agreement between theory and experiment is in general satisfactory. For a subset of 16 molecules, the standard deviation between computational and experimental values is 9 kJ/mol with the maximum deviation being 15 kJ/mol. The discrepancies between theory and experiment remain substantial (more than 20 kJ/mol) for VH, CrH, CoH, and FeH. To explore the source of the latter discrepancies, the …

Carbonyl compounds of Tc, Re, and Bh: Electronic structure, bonding, and volatility.

Calculations of molecular properties of M(CO)5 and MH(CO)5, where M = Tc, Re, and Bh, and of the products of their decomposition, M(CO)4 and MH(CO)4, were performed using density functional theory and coupled-cluster methods implemented in the relativistic program suits such as ADF, DIRAC, and ReSpect. The calculated first M—CO bond dissociation energies (FBDEs) of Bh(CO)5 and BhH(CO)5 turned out to be significantly weaker than those of the corresponding Re homologs. The reason for that is the relativistic destabilization and expansion of the 6d AOs, responsible for weaker σ-forth and π-back donations in the Bh compounds. The first example of cofacial bis(dipyrrins)

International audience; Two series of cofacial bis(dipyrrins) were prepared and their photophysical properties as well as their bimolecular fluorescence quenching with C-60 were investigated. DFT and TDDFT computations were also performed as a modeling tool to address the nature of the fluorescence state and the possible inter-chromophore interactions. Clearly, there is no evidence for such interactions and the bimolecular quenching of fluorescence, in comparison with mono-dipyrrins, indicates that C-60-bis(dipyrrin) contacts occur from the outside of the "mouth" of the cofacial structure.

Regioselective Synthesis of Mono- and Dispiropyrazoline Derivatives via 1,3-dipolar Cycloaddition with Nitrilimines

The 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction of (E,E)-1,3-bis(arylidene)indan-2-one with diarylnitrilimines, generated in situ via dehydrohalogenation of the corresponding hydrazonoyl chlorides , affords predominantly monospiropyrazolines and as a mixture of diastereoisomers. Equipping metallo-supramolecular macrocycles with functional groups: Assemblies of pyridine-substituted urea ligands

A series of di-(m-pyridyl)-urea ligands were prepared and characterized with respect to their conformations by NOESY experiments and crystallography. Methyl substitution in different positions of the pyridine rings provides control over the position of the pyridine N atoms relative to the urea carbonyl group. The ligands were used to self-assemble metallo-supramolecular M(2)L(2) and M(3)L(3) macrocycles which are generated in a finely balanced equilibrium in DMSO and DMF according to DOSY NMR experiments and ESI FTICR mass spectrometry.
