Student participation in peer interaction : use of material resources as a key consideration in an open-ended problem-solving mathematics task

This study explores how students deal with material resources in their peer interaction when working in pairs in an open-ended problem-solving task. The productive use of material resources can be expected to support successful peer work. However, research into social phenomena in peer interaction is needed in order to identify and describe productive and less productive forms of dealing with material resources as students participate in open-ended problem-solving tasks. Viihde-elektroniikka kehittyy jatkuvasti ja jo pienet lapset ovat aktiivisia laitteiden käyttäjiä. Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoitus oli kartoittaa pienten lasten kotien viihde-elektronista ympäristöä ja sitä, kuinka paljon lapset käyttävät viihde-elektronisia laitteita kotona. Tutkimus selvitti myös viihde-elektroniikan simultaanikäytön eli monen laitteen samanaikaisen käytön piirteitä pienten lasten keskuudessa. Tutkimus toteutettiin survey-tutkimuksena ja siihen osallistui kaksi päiväkotia. Aineistonkeruun metodina käytettiin kyselylomaketta, jonka vanhemmat täyttivät. In this article the researchers present an auto-ethnographic study of the first presenter´s life. Salonen is a Deaf person who suffered severe psychological problems in his youth because of uncertainty about his identity and a lack of social-emotional skills. Syväoja is a hearing psychiatrist and she is also Salonen's mother. The purpose of this research is to discuss openly Salonen´s life.
