On a nonlinear Schrödinger equation for nucleons in one space dimension

We study a 1D nonlinear Schrödinger equation appearing in the description of a particle inside an atomic nucleus. For various nonlinearities, the ground states are discussed and given in explicit form. Their stability is studied numerically via the time evolution of perturbed ground states. In the time evolution of general localized initial data, they are shown to appear in the long time behaviour of certain cases.

Corythucha arcuata, the North American oak lace bug feeding on leaves of “white oaks” in its native range, was discovered in Europe in 2000 (in northern Italy). Since that time it has spread rapidly in several European countries where its population outbreaks have been observed. However, the species was not reported from Poland, so far. In this study the potential geographic distribution of Corythucha arcuata was modelled using maximum entropy (Max-Ent) in order to predict the regions of Poland where it would have found the best environmental conditions for its further spread. Tässä tutkimuksessa selvitettiin oppilaiden yläkoulun 7. luokalla raportoimaa toiminnallista kiinnittymistä ja sitä mahdollisesti ennustavia alakoulun 6. luo-kan tekijöitä. Ala- ja yläkoulun välisen nivelvaiheen tutkiminen on tärkeää, koska nivelvaiheen uskotaan olevan merkittävä vaihe lasten ja nuorten kehityk-sessä. A Selenium-Nitrogen Chain with Selenium in Different Oxidation States

The reaction of tBuNH2 with a mixture of SeCl2 and SeOCl2 in a 6:2:1 molar ratio produces the novel selenium-nitrogen chain ClSeN(tBu)Se(O)Cl (4), in which the selenium atoms are in two different oxidation states, SeII and SeIV. The crystal structure of 4 is compared with that of the related SeII/SeII system ClSeN(tBu)SeCl (1) and differences are attributed to hyperconjugative effects. The energetics of the formation of 4 via two different routes are elucidated by PBE0/def2-TZVPP calculations. peerReviewed
Performance of the ALICE experiment at the CERN LHC

ALICE is the heavy-ion experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The experiment continuously took data during the first physics campaign of the machine from fall 2009 until early 2013, using proton and lead-ion beams. In this paper we describe the running environment and the data handling procedures, and discuss the performance of the ALICE detectors and analysis methods for various physics observables.
A multivariate powered half-normal distribution

The half-normal distribution has applications in various contexts, particularly in economic analysis (to describe, for example, inefficiency variables), reliability analysis and quality control. However, it seems that, still in the recent literature, interest in forms of multivariate distribution with half-normal marginals is remained at a low level. This problem arises, for example, in the context of economic analysis when it needs to examine inefficiency variables simultaneously.
