GPU-Based Optimisation of 3D Sensor Placement Considering Redundancy, Range and Field of View

This paper presents a novel and efficient solution for the 3D sensor placement problem based on GPU programming and massive parallelisation. Compared to prior art using gradient-search and mixed-integer based approaches, the method presented in this paper returns optimal or good results in a fraction of the time compared to previous approaches. The presented method allows for redundancy, i.e. requiring selected sub-volumes to be covered by at least n sensors. The presented results are for 3D sensors which have a visible volume represented by cones, but the method can easily be extended to work with sensors having other range and field of view shapes, such as 2D cameras and lidars.

Summary The predominant form of life for microorganisms in their natural habitats is the biofilm mode of growth. The adherence and colonization of probiotic bacteria are considered as essential factors for their immunoregulatory function in the host. Here, we show that Lactobacillus casei ATCC334 adheres to and colonizes the gut of zebrafish larvae. The abundance of pro-inflammatory cytokines and the recruitment of macrophages were low when inflammation was induced in probiotic-fed animals, suggesting that these bacteria have anti-inflammatory properties. With the recent rise in interest in using lytic bacteriophages as therapeutic agents, there is an urgent requirement to understand their fundamental biology to enable the engineering of their genomes. Current methods of phage engineering rely on homologous recombination, followed by a system of selection to identify recombinant phages. Oak stress-induced protein 1 (OSIP1) is a fungal-specific protein with unknown function. By using Podospora anserina and Phanerochaete chrysosporium as models, we combined both in vivo functional approaches and biophysical characterization of OSIP1 recombinant protein. Abstract The odorous volatile compounds produced by 3 strains (out of 25 strains tested) of Phlebia radiata Fr. were investigated on six synthetic media and identified by GC-MS analysis. One of the 3 strains was odourless. Aromatic primary alcohols and a sesquiterpenic alcohol, α-bisabolol, were the most abundant metabolites for both of the other strains, which exhibited similar flavours and a similar gas chromatographic profile.
