Persistent offenders and adolescence-limited offenders: Differences in life-courses.
2020
Background and Aims As our previous study indicated, almost half of juvenile delinquents continued offending in adulthood, while the rest ceased to do so. We compared these groups with each other and with non‐offenders in the life‐course use of alcohol, identity development and life situation. Methods Based on the Jyväskylä Longitudinal Study of Personality and Social Development, four groups were formed at age 42 for men and women: persistent, adolescence‐limited and adult‐onset offenders and non‐offenders. Longitudinal data (N = 369; 53% males) have been collected at ages 8, 14, 20, 27, 36, 42 and 50. Results Persistent offending, but not adolescence‐limited offending, was associated with…
Legal and forensic psychology in Spain: A study of official masters and degrees in Spanish universities
2018
Dismantling and electrochemical copper recovery from Waste Printed Circuit Boards in H2SO4–CuSO4–NaCl solutions
2019
Abstract The worldwide growing of electrical and electronic equipment makes increasingly urgent to find environmentally friendly treatments for e-waste. In this paper, the attention has been focused on i) the eco-friendly dismantling of the electronic components from Waste Printed Circuit Boards and ii) recovering of pure metallic copper, which is the most abundant metal and one of the most valuable in Printed Circuit Boards. After an experimental optimization study, we found that a solution containing 0.5 M H2SO4, 0.4 M CuSO4, and 4 M NaCl can be successfully used to disassemble the electronic components from the boards by leaching of all exposed metals. Air was blown into the leaching sol…
Mix design and mechanical performance of geopolymeric binders and mortars using biomass fly ash and alkaline effluent from paper-pulp industry
2019
Abstract This work investigates the use of biomass fly ash (BFA) and an alkaline effluent (AEF), both generated from the Kraft pulp industry, in the preparation of geopolymeric binders and mortars for construction applications. BFA replaced the metakaolin (MK) while the AEF substituted the distilled water used to dissolve NaOH pellets. The mix design aims to maximize the amount of both the wastes and to optimize the materials properties, such as workability and mechanical performance. At the same time, also the environmental impact decreases enhancing the materials' sustainability and facilitating the circular economy. For the previously optimized BFA/MK ratio (70/30 wt.%) several NaOH/Na2S…
Characterization of Silica Extracted from Rice Husk by NIR Spectroscopy and its Application in Separation Science
2020
Rice is one of the major crops and staple food of more than half of the world’s population. Its production generates an abundant by-product, namely rice husk (RH). Rice husk is used as a fuel for power generation. The rice husk ash (RHA) generated during combustion becomes an environmental pollutant and its disposal is difficult. In this work, rice husk was used to produce silica by burning in a furnace at 650°C for 4 hrs. The produced silica was characterized by Near Infrared (NIR) spectroscopy and then used to prepare thin layer chromatography plates (TLC) for testing its efficiency in the separation of organic compounds. The NIR spectrum of rice husk ash showed the presence of combinatio…
Smart load prediction analysis for distributed power network of Holiday Cabins in Norwegian rural area
2020
Abstract The Norwegian rural distributed power network is mainly designed for Holiday Cabins with limited electrical loading capacity. Load prediction analysis, within such type of network, is necessary for effective operation and to manage the increasing demand of new appliances (e. g. electric vehicles and heat pumps). In this paper, load prediction of a distributed power network (i.e. a typical Norwegian rural area power network of 125 cottages with 478 kW peak demand) is carried out using regression analysis techniques for establishing autocorrelations and correlations among weather parameters and occurrence time in the period of 2014–2018. In this study, the regression analysis for loa…
Fuzzy green vehicle routing problem for designing a three echelons supply chain
2020
Abstract In this study, a three-echelon fuzzy green vehicle routing problem (3E-FGVRP) is considered for designing a regional agri-food supply chain on a time horizon. To account for the variability associated with the quantities requested by customers, it is assumed that the demands are fuzzy numbers simulated by a time-dependent algorithm. Moreover, the vehicle fleet and distribution centres are considered with a defined capacity. The credibility theory of fuzzy sets is used to implement a multi-objective fuzzy chance-constrained programming model, where the total costs and carbon emissions are minimised. The resolution of the 3E-FGVRP is conducted by using a non-dominated sorting genetic…
Violence against women in heterosexual couples: A review of psychological and medico-legal considerations.
2021
Intimate partner violence against women (IPVAW) is the most pervasive violation of women’s rights worldwide, causing devastating lifelong damage. Victims can suffer physical, emotional or mental health problems, and experience detrimental effects in social, psychological and relational health with their families, especially children. Due to the complexity regarding violence against women in heterosexual couples, it is important to make a clear distinction between psychological and physical mistreatment, which also includes psychological violence. This differentiation is important in determining different emotional and psychological aspects of mistreatment in order to understand the reasons …
A renewable energy mix to supply small islands. A comparative study applied to Balearic Islands and Fiji
2019
Abstract Power plants supplied by renewables are expanding around the world, increasing the sustainability of the energy sector. In this context, small islands are heavily reliant on fossil fuels. However, this paper shows that the same problem can be found also in small islands belonging to developed countries. To increase the energy sustainability of small islands, the authors assembled a simplified mathematical approach to evaluate the potential electricity production, exploiting the local available energy sources: solar, wind and sea wave. The mathematical model requires few information in input, such as climatic data about the local energy sources and technical features on the selected…
Feasibility of FPGA accelerated IPsec on cloud
2018
Abstract Hardware acceleration for famous VPN solution, IPsec, has been widely researched already. Still it is not fully covered and the increasing latency, throughput, and feature requirements need further evaluation. We propose an IPsec accelerator architecture in an FPGA and explain the details that need to be considered for a production ready design. This research considers the IPsec packet processing without IKE to be offloaded on an FPGA in an SDN network. Related work performance rates in 64 byte packet size for throughput is 1–2 Gbps with 0.2 ms latency in software, and 1–4 Gbps with unknown latencies for hardware solutions. Our proposed architecture is capable to host 1000 concurre…
