“Sweet” ionic liquid gels: materials for sweetening of fuels

The search for new materials to be used in desulfurisation (sweetening) of fuels is one of the main topics of current research. In this paper, we explored the possibility of using supramolecular gels obtained from the gelation of ionic liquid binary mixtures. Indeed, some ionic liquids are generally known as efficient extraction phases for desulfurisation of fuels. In rare cases, one of their main drawbacks is their partial solubility in the fuel, leading to contamination. Hard cap espresso extraction and liquid chromatography determination of bioactive compounds in vegetables and spices

Abstract A new analytical procedure, based on liquid chromatography with diode array and fluorescence detection, has been proposed for the determination of bioactive compounds in vegetables and spices after hard cap espresso extraction. This novel extraction system has been tested for the determination of capsaicin and dihydrocapsaicin from fresh chilli and sweet pepper, piperine from ground pepper, curcumin from turmeric and curry, and myristicin from nutmeg. Extraction efficiency was evaluated by using acetonitrile:water and ethanol:water mixtures. The proposed method allows the extraction of samples with 100 mL of 60% (v/v) ethanol in water. Random Tensor Theory: Extending Random Matrix Theory to Mixtures of Random Product States

We consider a problem in random matrix theory that is inspired by quantum information theory: determining the largest eigenvalue of a sum of p random product states in $${(\mathbb {C}^d)^{\otimes k}}$$ , where k and p/d k are fixed while d → ∞. When k = 1, the Marcenko-Pastur law determines (up to small corrections) not only the largest eigenvalue ( $${(1+\sqrt{p/d^k})^2}$$ ) but the smallest eigenvalue $${(\min(0,1-\sqrt{p/d^k})^2)}$$ and the spectral density in between. The near-repeat phenomenon usually occurs with any crime. Hence, to implement preventive measures, it is of great interest to figure out at which spatio-temporal scale crimes are more likely to be repeated by offenders. The Knox test is the most used statistical tool for evaluating the presence of the near-repeat phenomenon given a dataset of crimes that are located in space and time. Angular dependence of the domain wall depinning field in the sensors with segmented corners

Rotating domain wall based sensors that have recently been developed are based on a segmented looping geometry. In order to determine the crucial pinning of domain walls in this special geometry, we investigate the depinning under different angles of an applied magnetic field and obtain the angular dependence of the depinning field of the domain walls. Due to the geometry, the depinning field not only exhibits a 180$^\circ$-periodicity but a more complex dependence on the angle.
