The present study aims to detect the main internal and external determinants that influence corporate environmental disclosure practices. The empirical methodology consists of the development and use of an environmental disclosure dictionary specifically designed to examine corporate annual reports, in a fixed effect panel data econometric model, and in a difference-in-differences analysis. The sample analyzed includes those firms belonging to the Euro Stoxx 50 index, whose annual reports have been examined over the 2010 – 2019 time period. Mathematical monuments in Finland

With “mathematical monuments” we mean either monuments for famous mathematicians and their achievements or works of art representing mathematical objects in public places. We present a panoply of such monuments in Finland for the purposes of the mathematical tourist visiting our country. As we are interested in symbolic representations of science, we take a broad view of the notion of “monument” and take into account also some minor artefacts, such as portraits, medals and stamps, and other semiotic signs, such as street names and commemorative plates, illustrating some highlights of the history of mathematics in Finland. The Village Action Association of Finland (SYTY) organizes the Village of the Year competition annually to award active rural communities. The competition has taken place since 1985, but after the village action movement was integrated into Finnish rural policy networks in the 1990s, it also became a part of rural policy instruments. The competition can be considered a governing technique that constructs norms and an ideal model for rural communities to pursue. Abstract In this article, we study how declining rural communities build political resilience in Finland. Community resilience is an adaptive process through which rural communities try to maintain their viability in changed circumstances. This process does not entail a submissive attitude, but rather active agency and an effort to influence matters concerning the community’s well-being. We focus on the political dimension of resilience by identifying different local tactics that rural communities adopt to promote their own development following municipal mergers. An improved Lewis acid catalyzed synthesis method for methyl tetramethoxy resorcinarene is described, which produced the missing lower rim methyl derivative of this partially O-alkylated resorcinarene family. Structural characterization by means of variable temperature NMR experiments and single crystal X-ray diffraction studies furthermore revealed that the resorcinarene core adopts different conformations in the solid state and in solution. peerReviewed

Abstract Impaired natural ecosystems, such as agricultural lands, are restored toward original or other target stage. Because the long agricultural history has changed the physical, chemical and biological features of the soil, afforested fields can harbor novel species assemblages and interactions. Our overall aim was to quantify the diversity of ground beetles and ants in early successional afforested fields. In a large scale field experiment, we compared plots that had been afforested 25 years ago by planting monocultures of birch, pine or spruce trees. The registered pledgee has a special position in the course of such proceedings.
