Nowadays, WWW contains a number of social media sites, which are growing rapidly. One of the main features of social media sites is to allow to its users creation and modification of contents of the site utilizing the offered WWW interfaces. Such contents are referred to as user generated contents and their type varies from site to site. Social media sites can be modeled as constantly evolving multirelational directed graphs. In this paper, we describe a new interactive tool developed for wastewater treatment plant design. The tool is aimed at supporting the designer in designing new wastewater treatment plants as well as optimizing the performance of already available plants. Interactive multiobjective optimization methods cannot necessarily be easily used when (industrial) multiobjective optimization problems are involved. There are at least two important factors to be considered with any interactive method: computationally expensive functions and aspects of human behavior. A novel heuristic memetic clustering algorithm

In this paper we introduce a novel clustering algorithm based on the Memetic Algorithm meta-heuristic wherein clusters are iteratively evolved using a novel single operator employing a combination of heuristics. Several heuristics are described and employed for the three types of selections used in the operator. The algorithm was exhaustively tested on three benchmark problems and compared to a classical clustering algorithm (k-Medoids) using the same performance metrics. The results show that our clustering algorithm consistently provides better clustering solutions with less computational effort.
Gear classification and fault detection using a diffusion map framework

This article proposes a system health monitoring approach that detects abnormal behavior of machines. Diffusion map is used to reduce the dimensionality of training data, which facilitates the classification of newly arriving measurements. The new measurements are handled with Nyström extension. The method is trained and tested with real gear monitoring data from several windmill parks. A machine health index is proposed, showing that data recordings can be classified as working or failing using dimensionality reduction and warning levels in the low dimensional space. The proposed approach can be used with any system that produces high-dimensional measurement data. peerReviewed
Shape Sensitivity Analysis and Gradient-Based Optimization of Large Structures Using MLFMA

A fast method for computing the action of shape-differentiated electric field integral equation (EFIE) system matrix to a vector is derived exploiting the multilevel fast multipole algorithm (MLFMA). The proposed method is used in conjunction with the adjoint-variable method (AVM) to compute the shape gradient of arbitrary objective functions depending on shape of a metallic scatterer. The method is demonstrated numerically by optimizing the shape of a parabolic reflector illuminated with a half-wave dipole.
On shape differentiation of discretized electric field integral equation

Abstract This work presents shape derivatives of the system matrix representing electric field integral equation discretized with Raviart–Thomas basis functions. The arising integrals are easy to compute with similar methods as the entries of the original system matrix. The results are compared to derivatives computed with automatic differentiation technique and finite differences, and are found to be in an excellent agreement. Furthermore, the derived formulas are employed to analyze shape sensitivity of the input impedance of a planar inverted F-antenna, and the results are compared to those obtained using a finite difference approximation.
Rehearsing to control depressive symptoms through a behavior change support system

Depressive symptoms are generally coupled with distress and high treatment costs. We present our on-going research on a Web-based behavior change support system, which utilizes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy as a rehearsal tool. We present a summarized account of the research setting, studied persuasive software features, and a brief account of initial data analysis. Our work presents implications on design interventions for mental well-being and human-computer interaction.
Two-phase routing in three-dimensional blocked optical tori

The contribution of this paper is an all-optical 3D network architecture. We describe scheduled, two-phase routing for it. The three-dimensional blocked optical torus BOT of block size b consists of b2 × b2 × b2 nodes for the first phase routing. Processors are evenly deployed at the underlying torus so that every bth node consists of a processor. Additionally, a BOT consists of b3 blocks of b × b × b subnetworks for the second phase routing. Abstract The majority of countries with advanced information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure have been experiencing extended stagnation due to an “embedded” trap in ICT advancement. However, certain countries have been able to sustain a high level of ICT- driven global competitiveness. This suggests that in these contexts there is resilience beyond economic value.
