New stage-discharge relationship for inclined non-rectangular weirs

Abstract In this paper, the outflow process of inclined non-rectangular weirs is studied applying the dimensional analysis and the incomplete self-similarity theory. At first, a new stage-discharge equation, applicable for the non-rectangular weirs having a different geometrical shape (parabolic, semicircular, inverted semicircular), is theoretically deduced using a characteristic width. Weighted distance-based trees for ranking data

Within the framework of preference rankings, the interest can lie in finding which predictors and which interactions are able to explain the observed preference structures, because preference decisions will usually depend on the characteristics of both the judges and the objects being judged. This work proposes the use of a univariate decision tree for ranking data based on the weighted distances for complete and incomplete rankings, and considers the area under the ROC curve both for pruning and model assessment. Two real and well-known datasets, the SUSHI preference data and the University ranking data, are used to display the performance of the methodology.

In this work the realization of an energetic hub based on a high-performances dish Stirling system, at the DEIM of the University of Palermo, is presented. The realized system is the first top rated solar thermodynamic plant directly connected to the national electric grid. The connection permits the electricity injection into the grid and allows to access to national renewable energy incentives regime. The aim of this study is to characterize cardiovascular and respiratory signals during orthostatic and mental stress as reflected in indices of entropy and complexity, providing a comparison between the performance of different estimators. Most of segmental prestressed concrete box girders exhibit excessive multidecade deflections unforeseeable by past and current design codes. Abstract In this work, a two-scale approach to degradation and failure in polycrystalline materials is proposed. The formulation involves the engineering component level (macro-scale) and the material grain level (micro-scale). The rise of new application scenarios in recent years has required optimized methods to address knowledge extraction from huge amounts of data and to model highly complex systems. Abstract This paper presents a three-dimensional elastic viscoplastic model that can describe the time-dependent behaviors of soft clays.
