The significance in Finland of shipping on inland waterways has been great. This is due to the topography of the country with its many lakes and to the fact that the vast waterways in their natural state were easily navigable. The construction of canals resulted in even more extensive interconnected inland waterways. This study explores the tasks of the steamships plying these internal waterways, their numbers and significance, and also changes and the reasons for these between different inland waterways, as regards different types of vessels and shipowners in the period from the 1870s to the 1960s. 1900-luvun alussa historioitsijat Martti Kovero ja J. R. Danielson-Kalmari kirjoittivat Savon ja Karjalan läänin viranomaisten vakavista väärinkäytöksistä 1800-luvun taitteessa. Läänin ylimmät virkamiehet olivat keränneet isojako- ja verollepanotoimitusten varjolla asukkailta kohtuuttoman suuria maksuja sekä kantaneet verotuloja itselleen. Seudun hallinto oli joutunut alennustilaan ja talouselämä vaikeuksiin. Sittemmin historian professori Matti Klinge on pitänyt edellä mainittuja kuvauksia liioiteltuina. Klingen mukaan alueen väärinkäytökset olivat oire yhteiskuntaa modernisoivien maanomistus- ja verouudistusten läpiviennin haasteista kaskiviljelysalueilla.

Avioliitolla oli 1800-luvun maaseudulla monia merkityksiä sekä yksilöiden elämänkulussa että väestörakenteellisesti. Suomen historian pro gradu -tutkielmassani tarkastelen avioitumista ajallisena, sosiaalisena ja alueellisena ilmiönä 1800-luvun Suonenjoella. Ensisijaisena tutkimusaineistona käytän Suonenjoen seurakunnan vihittyjen luetteloita vuosilta 1800–1809 ja vuosilta 1870–1879. Tutkielmassani vertailen kahta eri vuosikymmentä ja tarkastelen 1800-luvun kuluessa tapahtuneita muutoksia avioitumiskäyttäytymisessä. Yhdistän tutkielmassani väestö- ja sosiaalihistoriallisen rakennetarkastelun kartallistamiseen, jonka avulla havainnollistan avioliittojen alueellista ja tilallista ulottuvuutta…

The target area of my research is the history of the theatre in the last decades of the 19th and the first decades of the 20th centuries. I am trying to reveal what kind of theatre existed on the fringes of the world of theatre, because in the first decades of the 20th century several artists tried to follow the new European trends and to make use of their results. I wish to present this process through the careers of two actors: Irén Feld and Artúr Bárdos. Besides these experiments I wish to deal with theatre in the country. In the second half of the 19th century several modern theatre buildings were erected in the country, along which the quality of the performances slightly improved, too…
