The focus of the present study is to describe the connection between the Finnish students’ studies of applied linguistics in the Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz, Germany, and their later working career. One specific field of competence that all of them have is the skill of German language and the knowledge of German culture. The career development has led some students to become entrepreneurs, some to become freelancers, and some to become salaried employees.
