The article presents opinions and assessments o f the Polish authorities in exile (the president and the govemment) on the situation o f Poland in the first half of the 70s. The emigration authorities were absolutely against the inhuman actions during the December 1970 workers’ rebellion. The “Polish” London, lacking in information from the country, wrote about hundreds o f people killed and wounded. They were also pointing to the tragic economic situation o f Poland and the economic exploitation by the USSR. A series of four different low molecular weight gellan gum products was obtained by alkaline hydrolysis with the aim to investigate the impact of the molecular weight on the rheological properties of the polysaccharide aqueous dispersions and on the physicochemical characteristics of derived ionotropic crosslinked hydrogels. Caffeine (a stimulant) and ethanol (a depressant) may have opposite effects in our body, but under in vitro conditions they can “gel” together. Caffeine, being one of the widely used stimulants, continued to surprise the scientific community with its unprecedented biological, medicinal and physicochemical properties. Here, we disclose the supramolecular self-assembly of anhydrous caffeine in a series of alcoholic and aromatic solvents, rendering a highly entangled microcrystalline network facilitating the encapsulation of the solvents as illustrated using direct imaging, microscopy analysis and NMR studies. Negli ultimi anni, nuovi e importanti contributi hanno ricostruito il dibattito intorno alla Legge 180 del 1978, con attenzione tanto al quadro nazionale quanto alle specificità locali. Rimane però poco esplorata la questione del superamento del manicomio al Sud, e in Sicilia in particolare. Il saggio intende presentare i primi risultati di una ricerca sulla ricezione del dibattito sulla rivoluzione psichiatrica nel Mezzogiorno, e propone una riflessione sul complesso quadro in cui nel decennio 1968-78 nell’isola hanno luogo, seppure a macchia di leopardo, intense esperienze di lotta anti-istituzionale.

Effects of garlic powders with varying alliin contents on hepatic drug metabolizing enzymes in rats

International audience; The anticarcinogenic effect of garlic has been demonstrated in both epidemiologic and experimental studies. In this study, possible mechanisms involved in the anticarcinogenic effect of garlic consumption were assessed by determining its capacity to alter drug metabolizing enzymes, in relation with its alliin content. Rats were fed a diet for 2 weeks containing 5% garlic powders produced from bulbs grown on soils with different levels of sulfate fertilization and therefore containing differing amounts of alliin. Activities of several hepatic enzymes, which are important in carcinogen metabolism such cytochromes P450 (CYP) and phase II enzymes, were determined. Garlic…
