Bourdieu en la educación científica: consecuencias para la enseñanza y la investigación

2012

Over the last decades, the development and establishment of a sociocultural approach to science education have led to an increasing interest in other theoretical frameworks such as the sociology of science and the sociology of education of Pierre Bourdieu (1930-2002). With the purpose of contributing to the advancement of the appropriation of Bourdieu’s work by research in science education, this paper presents some of the most important ideas of this author and discusses their implications for science education and research. A lo largo de las últimas décadas, el desarrollo y la consolidación de un abordaje sociocultural a la educación científica han dado lugar a un creciente interés por re…

The importance of nutritional status on clinical outcomes among both ICU and Non-ICU patients with COVID-19.

2022

Background and aims: The current Covid-19 outbreak becomes a tremendous public health concern worldwide. Since a little information is available on nutritional status and its devastating effects on covid-19 complications in Iran, in the present study, we aimed to evaluate nutritional status of covid-19 population and its related factors. Methods: We performed this observational study by recruiting 400 hospitalized covid-19 subjects. Thereafter, the needed clinical and para clinical data were collected and their nutritional status was then assessed using NRS-20 02. Results: Approximately 36% of the total sample size and 100% of the ICU- admitted cases were at the severe risk of malnutrition. …

Outline of a sociology of translation informed by the ideas of Pierre Bourdieu

2010

In this article I put forward a sociology of translation informed by the ideas of Pierre Bourdieu. Founded on a theory of action, this theory may be defined as a theory of translation practice. Translation practice is examined here through the study of the translation of symbolic goods, specifically American literature into French. The notions of ‘field’, ‘habitus’ and ‘illusio’ are briefly analysed and applied to American literature in French. The habitus of Marcel Duhamel and Maurice-Edgar Coindreau are examined, as well as the illusio specific to the science-fiction field. Bourdieusian sociology serves as a foundation for raising questions that are often discussed in translation studies …

Immunoproteasome LMP2 60HH Variant Alters MBP Epitope Generation and Reduces the Risk to Develop Multiple Sclerosis in Italian Female Population

2010

BackgroundAlbeit several studies pointed out the pivotal role that CD4+T cells have in Multiple Sclerosis, the CD8+ T cells involvement in the pathology is still in its early phases of investigation. Proteasome degradation is the key step in the production of MHC class I-restricted epitopes and therefore its activity could be an important element in the activation and regulation of autoreactive CD8+ T cells in Multiple Sclerosis.Methodology/principal findingsImmunoproteasomes and PA28-alphabeta regulator are present in MS affected brain area and accumulated in plaques. They are expressed in cell types supposed to be involved in MS development such as neurons, endothelial cells, oligodendroc…
