German and Austrian occupant literature on the Sami in Norway and Lapland – “Harmless” minority, a resource, and well-off “reindeer kings”
2020
Source at http://urn.fi/URN:NBN:fi:jyu-202006234344. In previous research on the history of the Second World War in Finland and Norway, relations between the German and Austrian occupying forces and the Sami people have generally been considered to be good. The occupant gaze upon the Sami has been interpreted as exoticizing and “touristic”. Historical encounters and the Sami position in the literary discourse are discussed and explained in this article, using a selection of German and Austrian wartime and post-war literature. The discursive reading the sources bear evidence of multiple ways of relating to the Sami, from benign to racializing; from demeaning to one filled with surprise at un…

Molecular surveillance of pandemic influenza A(H1N1) viruses circulating in Italy from May 2009 to February 2010: association between haemagglutinin …
2010
Haemagglutinin sequences of pandemic influenza A(H1N1) viruses circulating in Italy were examined, focusing on amino acid changes at position 222 because of its suggested pathogenic relevance. Among 169 patients, the D222G substitution was detected in three of 52 (5.8%) severe cases and in one of 117 (0.9%) mild cases, whereas the D222E mutation was more frequent and evenly distributed in mild (31.6%) and severe cases (38.4%). A cluster of D222E viruses among school children confirms reported human-to-human transmission of viruses mutated at amino acid position 222.

2010
Background: A new edition of the TNM was recently released that includes modifications for the staging system of kidney cancers. Specifically, T2 cancers were subclassified into T2a and T2b ( 10 cm), tumors with renal vein involvement or perinephric fat involvement were classified as T3a cancers, and those with adrenal involvement were classified as T4 cancers. Objective: Our aim was to validate the recently released edition of the TNM staging system for primary tumor classification in kidney cancer. Design, setting, and participants: Our multicenter retrospective study consisted of 5339 patients treated in 16 academic Italian centers. Intervention: Patients underwent either radical or part…
Stress test based on Oliver Wyman in Bank of Spain: an evaluation
2016
This paper, based on econometric techniques, has done a study to improve the predictions of the stress test, concerning the estimation of impairment losses. The main results obtained are: 1) the impact of the explanatory variables on the impairment loss is different at stages of growth, compared to times of recession; 2) there is a certain inertia of the dependent variable, but this inertia is different in intensity, and even the sign in the growth stages concerning the stages of recession; 3) of the explanatory variables, nominal GDP and equity are those that have a greater impact on the impairment loss; 4) finally, the two dummy variables that assess the impact of adjustment to market val…

History teaching in Finnish general upper secondary schools: Objectives and practices
2019
In Finland, the trend towards a new kind of history teaching emphasizing the understanding of historical knowledge and historical thinking skills began in the mid-1990s, when history teaching objectives were defined much more broadly in the curriculum than previously. In this article, we examine how, in over twenty years since the changes in curriculum objectives were made, general upper secondary school teachers have come to value the curriculum objectives of history teaching and how these have impacted on their teaching. The data for this article were collected by a semi-structured survey in 2016. Using counts, percentages, means, standard deviations and medians, a descriptive exploration…
The Impact of the Crisis on Economy and Labour Market, in the Southern European Countries. What about the 'Mediterranean Model'?
2017
This paper presents the first results of a research project developed in the last year. It aims at analysing and comparing the impact of the crisis on economy and labour market in the Southern European Countries (SECs). In the sociological and economic literature, these countries are considered similar up to the point of being included in a unique socio-economic model, named 'Mediterranean'. Starting from the evidence that the economic impact of the crisis in countries such as Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain cause different changes in the labour market indicators, the analysis tries to test the theory of the existence of the 'Mediterranean model' in the way in which the SECs reacted to th…
