Viipuri oli rajakaupunkina 1800-luvun alkupuoliskollakin liikkumisen keskus, jonka kautta kulki runsain määrin matkustajia niin itään ja erityisesti Pietariin, kuin myös lännen suuntaan. Matkustaja- ja passirekistereiden kautta on mahdollista analysoida, mitä matkustusdokumentteja liikkujat käyttivät, ja keitä kulkijat olivat. Jossakin määrin aineisto mahdollistaa myös kurkistuksen kaupungissa tapahtuneeseen majoitustoimintaan ja vieraanvaraisuuteen. Open-air museums are immersive learning environments disseminating ideas about the lifestyle and material culture of pre-modern times. Considering their significance and prevalence in Northern and Eastern Europe, little is known about how contemporary children perceive these cultural heritage spaces.
