Practical design rules for single-channel ultra high-speed dense dispersion management telecommunication systems

International audience; In this work, we establish some efficient and practical design rules for the implementation of single-channel ultra-high speed (>160-Gbit/s) telecommunication systems based on dense dispersion management. Moreover, we analyze some of actual implementation issues such as slope compensation scenario, junction losses, polarization mode dispersion and chromatic dispersion fluctuations.

This Article analyses the effects of succession of States in respect of international treaties on human rights. This is a matter not codified by the Vienna Convention on Succession of States in respect of Treaties. We have to bear in mind that human rights treaties have been adopted by international organisations, which have developed their own practice both for the succession of States as States Members of an international organisation and for the succession of States as Contracting Parties to treaties that the United Nations, the Council of Europe or the European Union have adopted in the field of human rights.

Effect and optimization of burst assembly algorithms for video traffic transmissions over OBS networks

Optical burst switching (OBS) has been proposed to be a technology for implementing the next generation optical Internet. In this architecture, burst assembly algorithms have an important influence in the traffic pattern that characterizes this sort of optical networks. Ytterbium-doped fiber laser as pulsed source of narrowband amplified spontaneous emission

AbstractWe report random noise pulsed regime of an ytterbium-doped fiber laser arranged in common Fabry-Perot configuration. We show that the laser output obeys the photon statistics inherent to narrowband amplified spontaneous emission and that the noise pulsing is properly addressed in terms of probability density and autocorrelation functions. Our novel approach reveals, in particular, that the regime’s coherence time dramatically shortens, from few ns to tens ps, with increasing laser power.

Highly Efficient Holmium-Doped All-Fiber ∼2.07-μm Laser Pumped by Ytterbium-Doped Fiber Laser at ∼1.13 μm

We report a 2.07-μm Holmium-doped all-fiber laser (HDFL) pumped by a 1.13-μm Ytterbium-doped fiber laser (YDFL). Home-made alumino–germano–silicate holmium-doped fiber (HDF) served here as an active medium, optimized in terms of chemical composition and co-dopants’ concentrations. Laser action at 2.07 μm was assessed in simple Fabry–Perot cavity, formed by a couple of home-made fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs), inscribed directly in the HDF; this allowed notable diminishing of intracavity loss of the 2.07-μm laser. Application of WGM Resonances to the Measurement of the Temperature Increment of Ho and Ho-Yb Doped Optical Fibers Pumped at 1125 and 975 nm

Optical fiber characterization using whispering gallery mode resonances of the fiber itself has been demonstrated to be a powerful technique. In this work, we exploit the thermal sensitivity of whispering gallery mode resonances to characterize the pump-induced temperature increment in holmium doped and holmium-ytterbium codoped optical fibers. The technique relies on the measurement of the resonances’ wavelength shift due to temperature variation as a function of the pump power. All-optical extinction-ratio enhancement of a 160 GHz pulse train by a saturable-absorber vertical microcavity

International audience; A vertical-access passive all-optical gate has been used to improve the extinction ratio of a 160 GHz pico-second pulse train at 1555 nm. An extinction ratio enhancement of 6 dB is observed within an 8 nm bandwidth. Such a device is a promising candidate for low-cost all optical reamplication and reshaping (211) regeneration at 160 Gbits/s.

Experimental demonstration of 160-GHz densely dispersion-managed soliton transmission in a single channel over 896 km of commercial fibers

International audience; We experimentally demonstrate the first 160-GHz densely dispersion-managed soliton transmission in a single channel at 1550 nm over nearly 900 km using commercially available non-zero dispersion-shifted fibers. This performance has been achieved by using a 16 km-long recirculating loop configuration and an appropriate design of the dispersion map.
