Depressive symptoms and long-term income: The Young Finns Study

Abstract Background Higher depressive symptoms have been associated with lower future income. However, studies examining this issue have had limited follow-up times and have used self-reported measures of income. Also, possible confounders or mediators have not been accounted. Methods 971 women and 738 men were selected from the ongoing prospective Young Finns Study (YFS) that began in 1980. Depressive symptoms were measured in 1992 when participants were from 15 to 30 years old. Information on annual income and earnings from 1993 to 2010 were obtained from the Finnish Longitudinal Employer-Employee Data (FLEED) of Statistics Finland and linked to the YFS. This study examined the relationship between income and physical activity by using three measures to illustrate daily physical activity: the self-reported physical activity index for leisure-time physical activity, pedometer-based total steps for overall daily physical activity, and pedometer-based aerobic steps that reflect continuous steps for more than 10 min at a time. Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore Finnish adolescents’ subjective health literacy (HL) in association to school achievement, learning difficulties, educational aspirations, and family affluence. High-Sensitivity Whispering Gallery Mode Humidity Sensor Based on Glycerol Microdroplet Volumetric Expansion

We demonstrate a highly sensitive whispering gallery mode (WGM) relative humidity (RH) sensor based on a glycerol microdroplet. WGMs were excited using a 760 nm tunable semiconductor laser. We used free space coupling, which is effective when using a liquid resonator. A detailed analysis of different parameters influencing the sensor’s characteristics (sensitivity, hysteresis, resolution, stability, and temperature) is presented. The sensitivity of the sensor is one of the highest reported (2.85 nm/% RH in the range 50–70% RH with the resolution 1 × 10−4% RH). Lo studio dei caratteri e dell’evoluzione morfologica degli insediamenti consente di approdare ad una prima classificazione di quelle forme della stanzialità (residenziale, del lavoro, turistica e dei servizi) che sembrano favorire il radicamento di attività turistiche compatibili con la qualità delle risorse, più di altre che, invece, sembrano ostacolarlo.

Il contributo degli autori mira alla definizione di una tipologia innovativa di turismo basata sulla centralità dell'interazione umana nel rapporto tra viaggiatore ed ospitante. Nel saggio è presente la descrizione della situazione siciliana nel quadro delle trasformazioni dello scenario economico e sociale del Mediterraneo. Il turismo relazionale integrato viene declinato come un modo di analizzare e valorizzare il turismo sostenibile di piccola dimensione che può essere diffuso nei territori deboli come una nuova forma di presidio umano contro l'abbandono e quindi contro il degrado ambientale.
