A Franks' lemma that preserves invariant manifolds
2009
A well-known lemma by John Franks asserts that one obtains any perturbation of the derivative of a diffeomorphism along a periodic orbit by a $C^1$-perturbation of the whole diffeomorphism on a small neighbourhood of the orbit. However, one does not control where the invariant manifolds of the orbit are, after perturbation. We show that if the perturbated derivative is obtained by an isotopy along which some strong stable/unstable manifolds of some dimensions exist, then the Franks perturbation can be done preserving the corresponding stable/unstable semi-local manifolds. This is a general perturbative tool in $C^1$-dynamics that has many consequences. We give simple examples of such conseq…
Quasi-isometrically embedded subgroups of braid and diffeomorphism groups
2005
We show that a large class of right-angled Artin groups (in particular, those with planar complementary defining graph) can be embedded quasi-isometrically in pure braid groups and in the group of area preserving diffeomorphisms of the disk fixing the boundary (with respect to the $L^2$-norm metric); this extends results of Benaim and Gambaudo who gave quasi-isometric embeddings of $F\_n$ and $\Z^n$ for all $n>0$. As a consequence we are also able to embed a variety of Gromov hyperbolic groups quasi-isometrically in pure braid groups and in the diffeomorphism group of the disk. Examples include hyperbolic surface groups, some HNN-extensions of these along cyclic subgroups and the fundame…
HOMFLY-PT skein module of singular links in the three-sphere
2012
For a ring R, we denote by [Formula: see text] the free R-module spanned by the isotopy classes of singular links in 𝕊3. Given two invertible elements x, t ∈ R, the HOMFLY-PT skein module of singular links in 𝕊3 (relative to the triple (R, t, x)) is the quotient of [Formula: see text] by local relations, called skein relations, that involve t and x. We compute the HOMFLY-PT skein module of singular links for any R such that (t-1 - t + x) and (t-1 - t - x) are invertible. In particular, we deduce the Conway skein module of singular links.
Compressed Drinfeld associators
2004
Drinfeld associator is a key tool in computing the Kontsevich integral of knots. A Drinfeld associator is a series in two non-commuting variables, satisfying highly complicated algebraic equations - hexagon and pentagon. The logarithm of a Drinfeld associator lives in the Lie algbera L generated by the symbols a,b,c modulo [a,b]=[b,c]=[c,a]. The main result is a description of compressed associators that satisfy the compressed pentagon and hexagon in the quotient L/[[L,L],[L,L]]. The key ingredient is an explicit form of Campbell-Baker-Hausdorff formula in the case when all commutators commute.
On cyclic branched coverings of prime knots
2007
We prove that a prime knot K is not determined by its p-fold cyclic branched cover for at most two odd primes p. Moreover, we show that for a given odd prime p, the p-fold cyclic branched cover of a prime knot K is the p-fold cyclic branched cover of at most one more knot K' non equivalent to K. To prove the main theorem, a result concerning the symmetries of knots is also obtained. This latter result can be interpreted as a characterisation of the trivial knot.
Constrained differential inclusions with nonlocal initial conditions
2017
International audience; We show existence for the perturbed sweeping process with nonlocal initial conditions under very general hypotheses. Periodic, anti-periodic, mean value and multipoints conditions are included in this study. We give abstract results for differential inclusions with nonlocal initial conditions through bounding functions and tangential conditions. Some applications to differential complementarity systems and to vector hysteresis are given.
Differential inclusions involving normal cones of nonregular sets in Hilbert spaces
2017
This thesis is dedicated to the study of differential inclusions involving normal cones of nonregular sets in Hilbert spaces. In particular, we are interested in the sweeping process and its variants. The sweeping process is a constrained differential inclusion involving normal cones which appears naturally in several applications such as elastoplasticity, electrical circuits, hysteresis, crowd motion, etc. This work is divided conceptually in three parts: Study of positively alpha-far sets, existence results for differential inclusions involving normal cones and characterizations of Lyapunov pairs for the sweeping process. In the first part (Chapter 2), we investigate the class of positivel…
Topological Hopf algebras, quantum groups and deformation quantization
2003
After a presentation of the context and a brief reminder of deformation quantization, we indicate how the introduction of natural topological vector space topologies on Hopf algebras associated with Poisson Lie groups, Lie bialgebras and their doubles explains their dualities and provides a comprehensive framework. Relations with deformation quantization and applications to the deformation quantization of symmetric spaces are described
Observation of laser-induced field-free permanent planar alignment of molecules
2011
International audience; Permanent planar alignment of gas-phase linear molecules is achieved by a pair of delayed perpendicularly polarized short laser pulses. The experiment is performed in a supersonic jet, ensuring a relatively high number density of molecules with moderately low rotational temperature. The effect is optically probed on a femtosecond time scale by the use of a third short pulse, enabling a time-resolved birefringence detection performed successively in two perpendicular planes of the laboratory frame. The technique allows for an unambiguous estimation of the molecular planar delocalization produced within the polarization plane of the pulse pair after the turn-off of the…
