Intraoperative Ultrasound: Emerging Technology and Novel Applications in Brain Tumor Surgery

2022

Intraoperative ultrasound (IOUS) is becoming progressively more common during brain tumor surgery. We present data from our case series of brain tumor surgery performed with the aid of IOUS in order to identify IOUS advantages and crucial aspects that may improve the management of neurosurgical procedures for brain tumors. From January 2021 to September 2021, 17 patients with different brain tumors underwent brain tumor surgery aided by the use of IOUS. During surgery, the procedure was supported by the use of multiples ultrasonographic modalities in addition to standard B-mode: Doppler, color Doppler, elastosonography, and contrast-enhanced intraoperative ultrasound (CEUS). In selected cas…

Genomic divergence landscape in recurrently hybridizing Chironomus sister taxa suggests stable steady state between mutual gene flow and isolation

2021

Abstract Divergence is mostly viewed as a progressive process often initiated by selection targeting individual loci, ultimately resulting in ever increasing genomic isolation due to linkage. However, recent studies show that this process may stall at intermediate stable equilibrium states without achieving complete genomic isolation. We tested the extent of genomic isolation between two recurrently hybridizing nonbiting midge sister taxa, Chironomus riparius and Chironomus piger, by analyzing the divergence landscape. Using a principal component‐based method, we estimated that only about 28.44% of the genomes were mutually isolated, whereas the rest was still exchanged. The divergence land…

The dynamics of the financial capital – intellectual capital binomial relationship regarding the value creation process of a firm in the knowledge-ba…

2009

The idea that the value of the firm is given by its financial capital and its intellectual capital is generally accepted. But, what is changing nowadays is the importance/weight that each one of these two components claims to have regarding the value of the firm – based on the dynamics of the changes and the intensity of the competition within an industry, on one hand, and on the measure of connection/networking to the knowledge-based economy of the given industry, on the other hand. So, we are the witnesses of: (1) a repositioning into the dynamics of the financial capital – intellectual capital binomial relationship regarding the value creation process of a firm and (2) the need to reform…

Learning to Live Life Depth

2010

Current coordinates of everyday life may be addressed in school, alongside other elements of education, and education issues for environmental quality. This highlights a major priority for all of us, to know, protect and preserve the living environment, nature conservation and became effective and fair only when it will be part of our philosophy and behavior. We are at a historical moment that should guide our actions, meditating greater the repercussions on the environment. Deepening the knowledge of students and even our academics, and acting with greater wisdom, we can provide for ourselves and for posterity living conditions in an environment better adapted to the needs and aspirations …

General coordinates of the relationship between taxation and management

2015

Any modern state is unthinkable without an efficient taxation, without a fiscal field which is perceived as a stimulating factor in the development of the nation. Taking into account that fiscal science has always had a negative perception among taxpayers, through this article we present some aspects of management methods and management techniques that can give essential elements for improving taxation. Using management as art, science and state of mind can strengthen the role that taxation plays in the regulation of economic mechanisms.

The perception of young people regarding the Romanian taxation

2015

According to the principles of taxation, taxes should contribute to the development of the personality of each individual, to the overall development of the economy. In this framework, the elaboration and development of fiscal policy decisions must take into account the financial, economic and social implications, so that, taxation should be seen as a stimulating factor. Through this article, based on a selective research, we analysed how the younger generation perceives Romanian taxation, considering the level of fiscal education and confidence in fiscal institutions.

Human Capital and Income Inequality: Some Facts and Some Puzzles

2012

Using a broad number of indicators from an updated data set on human capital inequality for 146 countries from 1950 to 2010, this paper documents several facts regarding the evolution of income and human capital inequality. The main findings reveal that, in spite of a large reduction in human capital inequality around the world driven by a decline in the number of illiterates of several hundreds of millions of people, the inequality in the distribution of income has hardly changed. In many regions, the income Gini coefficient in 1960 was very similar to that in 2005. Therefore, improvements in literacy are not a sufficient condition to reduce income inequality, even though they improve life…

Panorámica de la problemática medioambiental en el mundo y en España

2008

As energy resources become scarce and pollution increases, fundamental and often irreversible changes are affecting our global ecosystem, and these changes are already having an influence on countries’ potential for economic growth and development. In this article we examine the principal environmental problems worldwide and how such problems are affected by inequality between countries. In Spain’s case, the basic problems are greenhouse gas emissions, problems relating to water management and issues concerning territory and biodiversity. We also call for the application of economic funding mechanisms to implement environmental policies.
