The concentration of phenylalanine in plasma, whole venous and capillary blood, and paper-dried blood of 75 probands (25 healthy adults, 27 healthy children, and 23 patients with hyperphenylalaninaemia) were measured by use of a sensitive short column chromatography method. The comparison of the values in each group of probands by several statistic methods showed an excellent correlation of the phenylalanine concentration in paper-dried whole blood to those measured in venous plasma. Evaluation of the analytical method revealed a high sensitivity and accuracy by use of a sample volume of 50 microliter. Aims: Cognitive impairment is a possible indicator of neurodevelopmental impairment, but not all psychotic patients are cognitively compromised. It has been suggested that heavy cannabis use may precipitate psychosis in those who show no such compromise. This study compares two samples of patients with first-episode psychosis and their respective non-psychotic controls, in London (UK) and Palermo (Italy), and examines whether different patterns of cannabis use are reflected in differences in IQ. Abstract Background A case of Primitive Neuroectodermal Tumor (PNET) of the kidney in a 27-year-old woman is presented. Few cases are reported in the literature with a variable, nonspecific presentation and an aggressive behaviour. In our case, a radical nephrectomy with lymphadenectomy was performed and there was no residual or recurrent tumour at 24-month follow-up. Introduction The incidence of cervical cancer (CC) in eastern European countries is high; however, uptake of available prevention strategies is suboptimal. We explored knowledge, behaviors, and attitudes toward CC prevention strategies in Latvian women. Methods A mixed-methods study of Latvian women, consisting of surveys and semi-structured interviews, was conducted in Riga, Latvia in September and October 2015. Results Altogether, 158 surveys were completed and 10 interviews were conducted.
