Mixing dynamics in uncovered unbaffled stirred tanks

Abstract The present work is aimed at providing experimental information on mixing rates in an unbaffled vessel under free surface vortexing conditions. The planar laser induced fluorescence (PLIF) technique was used for measuring the dispersion dynamics of a passive tracer over a vertical section of the vessel. In agreement with the quite scant literature information available for these systems, results confirm the existence of two well defined, partially segregated, zones that give rise to a double mixing dynamics behavior. Flows within very thin channels, typically filled with spacers, can be often encountered in many processes such as electrodialysis (ED) and reverse electrodialysis (RED). The Transverse Crack Tension test revisited

Several problems arise when measuring the mode II interlaminar fracture toughness using a Transverse Crack Tension specimen; in particular, the fracture toughness depends on the geometry of the specimen and cannot be considered a material parameter. A preliminary experimental campaign was conducted on TCTs of different sizes but no fracture toughness was measured because the TCTs failed in an unacceptable way, invalidating the tests. A comprehensive numerical and experimental investigation is conducted to identify the main causes of this behaviour and a modification of the geometry of the specimen is proposed. Photovoltaic plant array reconfiguration: Design of a new device

An efficient strategy to improve unequally irradiated PV plants performances is based on the reconfiguration of the connections between the modules. In this paper, an algorithm, for this purpose conceived, is presented. Moreover, the design, realization and finally also the set up of a new reconfiguration system device is fully shown and discussed. Residence time distribution of solid particles in a continuous, high-aspect-ratio multiple-impeller stirred vessel

Abstract In this paper experimental information on the retention time distribution (RTD) of solid particles in a high-aspect-ratio vessel, stirred by three equally spaced Rushton turbines, is presented. The relevant data were obtained by a special technique named twin system approach (TSA) that greatly simplifies the handling of particle-laden streams and is therefore particularly suited for investigating particle RTD in flow systems. The Reverse Electrodialysis (RED) process has been widely accepted as a viable and promising technology to produce electric energy from salinity difference (salinity gradient power - e.g. using river water/seawater, or seawater and concentrated brines). A simulation tool for analysis and design of reverse electrodialysis using concentrated brines

Abstract Reverse electrodialysis (SGP-RE or RED) represents a viable technology for the conversion of the salinity gradient power into electric power. A comprehensive model is proposed for the RED process using sea or brackish water and concentrated brine as feed solutions.
