Bounds for the relative n-th nilpotency degree in compact groups

The line of investigation of the present paper goes back to a classical work of W. H. Gustafson of the 1973, in which it is described the probability that two randomly chosen group elements commute. In the same work, he gave some bounds for this kind of probability, providing information on the group structure. We have recently obtained some generalizations of his results for finite groups. Here we improve them in the context of the compact groups.

Rationale: Loss of histone macroH2A1 induces appearance of cancer stem cells (CSCs)-like cells in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). How CSCs interact with the tumor microenvironment and the adaptive immune system is unclear. Methods: We screened aggressive human HCC for macroH2A1 and CD44 CSC marker expression. We also knocked down (KD) macroH2A1 in HCC cells, and performed integrated transcriptomic and secretomic analyses. Results: Human HCC showed low macroH2A1 and high CD44 expression compared to control tissues. The tandemly repeated sea urchin alpha-histone genes are developmentally regulated. These genes are transcribed up to the early blastula stage and permanently silenced as the embryos approach gastrulation. As previously described, expression of the alpha-H2A gene depends on the binding of the MBF-1 activator to the 5' enhancer, while down-regulation relies on the functional interaction between the 3' sns 5 insulator and the GA repeats located upstream of the enhancer. Abstractγ2-Adaptin is a clathrin adaptor-related protein with unclear physiological function. Previous studies indicated that γ2-adaptin might act within the multivesicular body (MVB) protein-sorting pathway that is central to receptor down-regulation, lysosome biogenesis, and budding of enveloped viruses. Here, we have analyzed the effects of excess and deficit γ2-adaptin on exogenous and endogenous MVB cargoes and on the MVB machinery itself. Experimental performance evaluation of a vapour compression refrigerating plant when replacing R22 with alternative refrigerants

Abstract This paper presents the results of an experimental analysis comparing the performance of a vapour compression refrigerating unit operating with R22, and its performance in comparison to a new HFC fluid, substituting the former according to Regulation No 2037/2000. In particular, the plant working efficiency was first tested with R22 and then with three new HFC fluids: R417A, R422A and R422D. The investigation verified that despite the case of substitution and the advantage of being able to continue to use mineral oil as a lubricant in the compressor, the performance with the new tested fluids did not result as efficient as when using R22.

Abstract To study whether the acetylation of one or more of the four acetylatable lysines of histone H4 affects its binding to DNA, we have designed a protection experiment with a model system consisting in phage lambda DNA as substrate, Stu I as restriction endonuclease and histone H4 with different degrees of acetylation as the protective agent. It can be deduced from the experimental data that the protection afforded by the histone is not dependent on the number of positive charges lost by acetylation.
