Two-dimensional difference in gel electrophoresis (2D-DIGE) for milk proteins characherization in Girgentana goat breed

2015

Milk proteomics has rapidly become an eligible approach, since the protein fraction constitutes the most biologically relevant component in milk. Proteomic applications can vary greatly from straightforward protein identification to complex characterization of post-translational modifications and protein-protein interactions. The aim of this work was to compare protein profile of Girgentana whole milk samples between lactation periods and geographical areas by two dimensional difference in gel electrophoresis (2D-DIGE). Milk samples were collected in two flocks located in two different areas of Sicily at three different time points from calving: 30, 55, and 120 days, respectively. Protein p…

Wet electrospinning-aided self-assembly of multifunctional GO-CNT@PCL core-shell nanocomposites with spider leg bioinspired hierarchical architectures

2022

We report a fast route enabling the multiscale design of nanohybrid structures comprising a 3D fibrous network of polycaprolactone (PCL) wrapped by graphene oxide (GO) sheets onto which carbon nanotube (CNT) brushes are anchored. The method relies on electrospinning PCL solutions onto a suspension of GO and CNTs in ethanol. Self-assembly is due to electrostatic wrapping of GO sheets around PCL fibers and 7C-7C stacking between GO and CNTs. Hierarchical architecture and nanopatterned surface allow gathering the starting properties of PCL, GO and CNTs into lightweight (99% porosity) yet robust (1575% stiffness improvement), amphiphilic monoliths that can remove methylene blue and/or methyl or…

Lagrangian simulation of bubbling dynamics in a lab-scale 2D fluidized bed

2013

The present work focuses on the development of a novel computational code able to predict with a reasonable level of accuracy the bubble behavior in gas fluidized beds with minimum computational demands. The code simulates the bubble chaotic rise motion and coalescence along bed height via simple lagrangian tracking of bubbles. An original empirical model for the assessment of bubble-bubble interactions is developed. The code is used to simulate a lab-scale unit in bubbling and slugging mode. On this basis, fast simulations are performed to successfully predict bubble population and fluxes within the bed. The main aim of this code is to be embedded within CAPE codes for the process simulati…

Two-Dimensional Carbon: A Review of Synthesis Methods, and Electronic, Optical, and Vibrational Properties of Single-Layer Graphene

2019

Graphite has been widely used by humans for a large part of their history. Nevertheless, it has only recently been possible to isolate its basic unit: carbon atoms arranged in a honeycomb structure on a single plane, namely graphene. Since its discovery, many techniques have been developed and improved to properly synthesize graphene and its derivatives which are part of the novel class of two-dimensional materials. These advanced materials have imposed themselves in nanotechnology thanks to some outstanding physical properties due to their reduced dimensions. In the case of graphene, its reduced dimension gives rise to a high electrical mobility, a large thermal conductivity, a high mechan…

Tryptophan promotes morphological and physiological differentiation in Streptomyces coelicolor.

2015

The molecular mechanisms regulating tryptophan biosynthesis in actinomycetes are poorly understood; similarly, the possible roles of tryptophan in the differentiation program of microorganism life-cycle are still underexplored. To unveil the possible regulatory effect of this amino acid on gene expression, an integrated study based on quantitative teverse transcription-PCR (qRT-PCR) and proteomic approaches was performed on the actinomycete model Streptomyces coelicolor. Comparative analyses on the microorganism growth in a minimal medium with or without tryptophan supplementation showed that biosynthetic trp gene expression in S. coelicolor is not subjected to a negative regulation by the …

A Three-Dimensional Object Point Process for Detection of Cosmic Filaments

2007

Summary We propose to apply an object point process to delineate filaments of the large scale structure in red shift catalogues automatically. We illustrate the feasibility of the idea on an example of the recent 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey, describe the procedure and characterize the results.

Uniform convergence and asymptotic confidence bands for model-assisted estimators of the mean of sampled functional data

2013

When the study variable is functional and storage capacities are limited or transmission costs are high, selecting with survey sampling techniques a small fraction of the observations is an interesting alternative to signal compression techniques, particularly when the goal is the estimation of simple quantities such as means or totals. We extend, in this functional framework, model-assisted estimators with linear regression models that can take account of auxiliary variables whose totals over the population are known. We first show, under weak hypotheses on the sampling design and the regularity of the trajectories, that the estimator of the mean function as well as its variance estimator …

A nonstationary cylinder-based model describing group dispersal in a fragmented habitat

2014

International audience; A doubly nonstationary cylinder-based model is built to describe the dispersal of a population from a point source. In this model, each cylinder represents a fraction of the population, i.e., a group. Two contexts are considered: The dispersal can occur in a uniform habitat or in a fragmented habitat described by a conditional Boolean model. After the construction of the models, we investigate their properties: the first and second order moments, the probability that the population vanishes, and the distribution of the spatial extent of the population.

A PHASE TRANSITION FOR LARGE VALUES OF BIFURCATING AUTOREGRESSIVE MODELS

2019

We describe the asymptotic behavior of the number $$Z_n[a_n,\infty )$$ of individuals with a large value in a stable bifurcating autoregressive process, where $$a_n\rightarrow \infty $$ . The study of the associated first moment is equivalent to the annealed large deviation problem of an autoregressive process in a random environment. The trajectorial behavior of $$Z_n[a_n,\infty )$$ is obtained by the study of the ancestral paths corresponding to the large deviation event together with the environment of the process. This study of large deviations of autoregressive processes in random environment is of independent interest and achieved first. The estimates for bifurcating autoregressive pr…
