The forward-backward asymmetry for massive bottom quarks at the $Z$ peak at next-to-next-to-leading order QCD

2017

We compute the order $\alpha_s^2$ QCD corrections to the $b$-quark forward-backward asymmetry in $e^+e^-\to b{\bar b}$ collisions at the $Z$ boson resonance, taking the non-zero mass of the $b$ quark into account. We determine these corrections with respect to both the $b$-quark axis and the thrust axis definition of the asymmetry. We compute also the distributions of these axes with respect to the electron beam. If one neglects the flavor singlet contributions to the $b$-quark asymmetry, as was done in previous computations for massless $b$ quarks, then the second-order QCD corrections for $m_b\neq 0$ are smaller in magnitude than the corresponding corrections for $m_b=0$. Including the si…

Flavor Non-universal Pati-Salam Unification and Neutrino Masses

2021

We analyze the neutrino mass spectrum and discuss the extra-dimensional interpretation of a three-site Pati-Salam model which i) unifies all families of quark and leptons, ii) provides a natural description of the Standard Model Yukawa couplings, iii) could account for the recent $B$-physics anomalies. The key feature of the model is a breaking of the Pati-Salam and electroweak gauge symmetries localized on opposite sites, communicated to the other sites in an attenuated manner via nearest-neighbor interactions. We show that in this context gauge-singlet fermions localized on each site, receiving hierarchical Majorana masses, can allow the implementation of an inverse seesaw mechanism leadi…

Performance Comparison of modified modulation Techniques for Quasi-Z-Source Converters

2020

The single-stage converters represent an innovation in the field of power electronics thanks their features. Aim of this work consists in the improvement of the performances of quasi-Z-Source converters by adopting a modified modulation technique, which is based on the Maximum Constant Boost Control (MCBC) and Switching Frequency Optimal (SFO). The results in terms of voltage stress and harmonic content are compared with those obtained with conventional techniques, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed modulation scheme.

Stabilization of the rhombohedral phase in LiZr2(PO4)3 by thermal quenching

1993

Abstract Two LiZr2(PO4)3 samples, which show rhombohedral and monoclinic symmetries, have been studied by powder XRD and MAS-NMR (31P and 7Li) techniques. In the monoclinic sample phosphorus occupies three crystallographic sites and lithium is preferentially placed in M2 environment. When the samples are subjected to successive heating-quenching treatments, the rhombohedral phase is not appreciably modified while the monoclinic phase is transformed into the rhombohedral one. In the quenched samples only one site for phosphorus has been detected and occupancy of lithium in the more symmetric M1 site is favoured. After the thermal treatments, when the samples are stored at room temperature fo…

Relationships of leisure-time physical activity and work ability between different occupational physical demands in adult working men

2019

Purpose: Leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) is known to be associated with positive health benefits, but the role of occupational physical demands remains inconsistent. The purpose of the current study was to assess the relationship between LTPA and work ability in different occupational physical activity (OPA) levels between young adult men. - Methods: We performed physical activity measurements in work and leisure time with the long version of International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) and work ability with the Work Ability Index (WAI) in 921 Finnish employed male volunteer participants. The participants were divided into LTPA tertiles I ( 28 MET-h/week) and OPA tertiles I (0…

Patients' narratives of patient education in physiotherapy after total hip arthroplasty.

2019

Abstract Objective The aim of this study was to explore patients' narratives of patient education in physiotherapy after a total hip arthroplasty (THA). Method The data was collected via open thematic interviews from ten patients who had had a primary THA. The interviews were analysed using a qualitative, narrative method. Results Three story models of patient education in physiotherapy were identified: Supportive patient education in physiotherapy, Co-operative patient education in physiotherapy and Contradictory patient education in physiotherapy. The emphasis of narration in the first story model was on the trust in the guidance, functioning interaction in the second and insufficient pat…

Religiøs og nasjonal symbolikk som virkemidler i sosiale medier : En studie av pro-russiske ytringer i sosiale medier i lys av konflikten i Ukraina

2019

Masteroppgave religion REL500 - Universitetet i Agder 2019 Religious and national symbolism as instruments in social media -A study of pro-Russian statementsin social media consideringthe conflict in Ukraine. This thesis discusses how pro-Russian groups affiliated with the conflict in Ukraine have used religious and national symbolism as instruments in social media. By means of Internet based netnographic field work, I selected three groups that in different ways are affiliated with the conflict. Then I collected all thecombinedvisual expressions (336 texts)containing religious and (official) national symbolism, that the groups published in 2018. With this data material, I conducted a quanti…

Cancer prevention with aspirin in hereditary colorectal cancer (Lynch syndrome), 10-year follow-up and registry-based 20-year data in the CAPP2 study…

2020

BACKGROUND: Lynch syndrome is associated with an increased risk of colorectal cancer and with a broader spectrum of cancers, especially endometrial cancer. In 2011, our group reported long-term cancer outcomes (mean follow-up 55·7 months [SD 31·4]) for participants with Lynch syndrome enrolled into a randomised trial of daily aspirin versus placebo. This report completes the planned 10-year follow-up to allow a longer-term assessment of the effect of taking regular aspirin in this high-risk population.METHODS: In the double-blind, randomised CAPP2 trial, 861 patients from 43 international centres worldwide (707 [82%] from Europe, 112 [13%] from Australasia, 38 [4%] from Africa, and four [&l…

Rapid shifting of a deep magmatic source at Fagradalsfjall volcano, Iceland

2022

AbstractRecent Icelandic rifting events have illuminated the roles of centralized crustal magma reservoirs and lateral magma transport1–4, important characteristics of mid-ocean ridge magmatism1,5. A consequence of such shallow crustal processing of magmas4,5 is the overprinting of signatures that trace the origin, evolution and transport of melts in the uppermost mantle and lowermost crust6,7. Here we present unique insights into processes occurring in this zone from integrated petrologic and geochemical studies of the 2021 Fagradalsfjall eruption on the Reykjanes Peninsula in Iceland. Geochemical analyses of basalts erupted during the first 50 days of the eruption, combined with associate…
