Economic Feasibility of Measures for Energy Efficiency
2014
In this chapter the economic impact of some measures for energy efficiency, both using automation of technical infrastructures (according to EN 15232) as well as implementing passive measures concerning the use of building materials and techniques (according to EN 15271), is studied. The chapter is organized as follows. First, a technical-economical study on the evaluation of the impact on residential buildings of Building Automation Control, BAC, and Technical Building Management, TBM, systems is presented. Then the same assessment of some passive measures that can be employed is carried out using the Passive House Standard for Mediterranean warm climates is shown. Numerical elaborations h…

Macroscopic expressions of molecular adiabatic compressibility of methyl and ethyl caprate under high pressure and high temperature
2014
The molecular compressibility, which is a macroscopic quantity to reveal the microcompressibility by additivity of molecular constitutions, is considered as a fixed value for specific organic liquids. In this study, we introduced two calculated expressions of molecular adiabatic compressibility to demonstrate its pressure and temperature dependency. The first one was developed from Wada’s constant expression based on experimental data of density and sound velocity. Secondly, by introducing the 2D fitting expressions and their partial derivative of pressure and temperature, molecular compressibility dependency was analyzed further, and a 3D fitting expression was obtained from the calculated…

Indications of non-conservative mass-transfer in AMXPs
2019
Context. Since the discovery of the first Accreting Millisecond X-ray Pulsar SAX J1808.4-3658 in 1998, the family of these sources kept growing on. Currently, it counts 22 members. All AMXPs are transients with usually very long quiescence periods, implying that mass accretion rate in these systems is quite low and not constant. Moreover, for at least three sources, a non-conservative evolution was also proposed. Aims. Our purpose is to study the long term averaged mass-accretion rates in all the Accreting Millisecond X-ray Pulsars discovered so far, to investigate a non-conservative mass-transfer scenario. Methods. We calculated the expected mass-transfer rate under the hypothesis of a con…
Correlated X-ray spectral and timing variability of the Be/X-ray binary V0332+53/BQ Camelopardalis during a type II outburst
2005
We have used INTEGRAL & RXTE data to investigate the timing properties of the source in correlation with its spectral states as defined by different positions in the colour-colour diagram. The source shows two distinct branches in the colour-colour diagram that resemble those of the Z sources. The hard branch (similar to the horizontal branch of Z sources) is characterised by a low-amplitude change of the hard colour compared to the change in the soft colour. In the soft branch (analogue to the normal branch) the amplitude of variability of the hard colour is about three times larger than that of the soft colour. As the count rate decreases the source moves up gradually through the soft…
Black-Hole Accretion Discs and Jets at Super-Eddington Luminosity
2004
Super-Eddington accretion discs with 3 and 15 dot M_E around black holes with mass 10 M_sun are examined by two-dimensional radiation hydrodynamical calculations extending from the inner disc edge to 5*10^4 r_g and lasting up to \sim 10^6 r_g/c. The dominant radiation-pressure force in the inner region of the disc accelerates the gas vertically to the disc plane, and jets with 0.2 -- 0.4$c$ are formed along the rotational axis. In the case of the lower accretion rate, the initially anisotropic high-velocity jet expands outward and becomes gradually isotropic flow in the distant region. The mass-outflow rate from the outer boundary is as large as \sim 10^{19} -- 10^{23} g s^{-1}, but it is v…
Cannabinoid CB1 receptor activation modulates spontaneous contractile activity in mouse ileal longitudinal muscle.
2007
The purpose of the present study was to examine whether cannabinoid receptor agonists influence spontaneous contractile activity of longitudinal muscle in mouse ileum in vitro. Isolated segments of mouse ileum displayed spontaneous contractions with an amplitude and frequency of about 300 mg and 30 cpm, respectively. The endocannabinoid anandamide (1-100 microM), the selective cannabinoid CB(1) receptor agonist, ACEA (0.1 microM-10 microM), but not the selective cannabinoid CB(2) receptor agonist, JWH 133 (0.1 microM-10 microM), reduced in a concentration-dependent manner the spontaneous mechanical activity. The inhibitory effect consisted in a decrease of the mean amplitude of longitudinal…
