Nutrition Knowledge Is Associated with Energy Availability and Carbohydrate Intake in Young Female Cross-Country Skiers
2021
The aim of this study was to provide information on energy availability (EA), macronutrient intake, nutritional periodization practices, and nutrition knowledge in young female cross-country skiers. A total of 19 skiers filled in weighted food and training logs before and during a training camp. Nutrition knowledge was assessed via a validated questionnaire. EA was optimal in 11% of athletes at home (mean 33.7 ± 9.6 kcal·kgFFM−1·d−1) and in 42% at camp (mean 40.3 ± 17.3 kcal·kgFFM−1·d−1). Most athletes (74%) failed to meet recommendations for carbohydrate intake at home (mean 5.0 ± 1.2 g·kg−1·d−1) and 63% failed to do so at camp (mean 7.1 ± 1.6 g·kg−1·d−1). The lower threshold of the pre-ex…
Drug-metabolizing enzyme activities in freshly isolated oval cells and in an established oval cell line from carcinogen-fed rats
1994
The activities of several different phase I and phase II drug-metabolizing enzymes were measured in freshly isolated oval cells from rats fed a choline-deficient/DL-ethionine-supplemented diet for 6 weeks and also in vitro in the established oval cell line OC/CDE 6. No cytochrome P450 was spectrophotometrically measurable in both preparations and two cytochrome P450-dependent monoxygenase activities, aminopyrine N-demethylase and ethoxyresorufin O-deethylase, could not be detected in the oval cells of both sources. However, cytosolic glutathione transferase, microsomal epoxide hydrolase and UDP-glucuronosyltransferase activities were clearly measurable in oval cells. Similar enzyme activiti…
Gas protection optimization during Nd:YAG laser welding
2004
International audience; Many laser processes, such as welding or surface treatments are associated with an undesired phenomenon, which is oxidation. The solution commonly employed to solve this problem approaches the shielding gas and/or the shielding gas device. What we propose in this paper is a methodology with the goal to optimize the protection gas device design as well as the gas flow in the case of laser welding and surface treatments. The pressure created by the gas flow on the sample surface is recorded and analysed together with the operating parameters influence in order to reach the objectives. The nozzle system designed and presented below assures the protection against materia…
Epigenetic and in vivo comparison of diverse MSC sources reveals an endochondral signature for human hematopoietic niche formation
2015
In the last decade there has been a rapid expansion in clinical trials using mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) from a variety of tissues. However, despite similarities in morphology, immunophenotype, and differentiation behavior in vitro, MSCs sourced from distinct tissues do not necessarily have equivalent biological properties. We performed a genome-wide methylation, transcription, and in vivo evaluation of MSCs from human bone marrow (BM), white adipose tissue, umbilical cord, and skin cultured in humanized media. Surprisingly, only BM-derived MSCs spontaneously formed a BM cavity through a vascularized cartilage intermediate in vivo that was progressively replaced by hematopoietic tissue…

Human CD8+ memory and EBV-specific T cells show low alloreactivity in vitro and in CD34+ stem cell–engrafted NOD/SCID/IL-2Rγcnull mice
2013
Current strategies in cellular immunotherapy of cancer and viral infections include the adoptive transfer of T cell receptor (TCR) and chimeric antigen receptor engineered T cells. When using transient RNA expression systems in clinical studies, multiple infusions with receptor-redirected T cells appear necessary. However, in allogeneic hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation, repeated transfer of donor-derived T cells increases the risk of alloreactive graft-versus-host disease. We investigated naive-derived (T N ), memory-derived (T M ), and Epstein Barr virus-specific (T EBV ) CD8 + T cell subsets for alloreactivity upon redirection with RNA encoding a cytomegalovirus-specific model TCR.…

Spin down during quiescence of the fastest known accretion-powered pulsar
2010
We present a timing solution for the 598.89 Hz accreting millisecond pulsar, IGR J00291+5934, using Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer data taken during the two outbursts exhibited by the source on 2008 August and September. We estimate the neutron star spin frequency and we refine the system orbital solution. To achieve the highest possible accuracy in the measurement of the spin frequency variation experienced by the source in-between the 2008 August outburst and the last outburst exhibited in 2004, we re-analysed the latter considering the whole data set available. We find that the source spins down during quiescence at an average rate of dot_{sd}=(-4.1 +/- 1.2)E-15 Hz/s. We discuss possible …
X-ray spectroscopy of MXB 1728-34 with XMM-Newton
2011
We have analysed an XMM-Newton observation of the low mass X-ray binary and atoll source MXB 1728-34. The source was in a low luminosity state during the XMM-Newton observation, corresponding to a bolometric X-ray luminosity of 5*10E36 d^2 erg/s, where d is the distance in units of 5.1 kpc. The 1-11 keV X-ray spectrum of the source, obtained combining data from all the five instruments on-board XMM-Newton, is well fitted by a Comptonized continuum. Evident residuals are present at 6-7 keV which are ascribed to the presence of a broad iron emission line. This feature can be equally well fitted by a relativistically smeared line or by a self-consistent, relativistically smeared, reflection mo…
Sperm activation and sperm-egg interaction
2006
Different steps of sperm activation such as acrosomal reaction and capacitation are described in details. The molecules involved in sperm-egg interaction are also reported.
