Household skills and low wages

Originally published in the journal Journal of Population Economics, Springer http://www.springerlink.com/content/100520/ Household skills provide job skills when tasks in jobs and household production are similar and jobs produce substitutes for home-made services. Opportunity costs of higher education are foregone earnings during schooling and foregone household production while studying and later in life. I show that individuals in jobs requiring household skills accept lower wage rates than traditional human capital theory predicts, and that individuals with low household skills tend to enter higher education. Promoting youth entrepreneurship and employability through non-formal and informal learning: the Latvia case

This paper presents some results of the research on ‘Adult education resources to reduce youth unemployment’, which is a part of the project ‘Implementation of the European agenda for adult learning’. The research applies a mixed-method approach (quantitative and qualitative data analysis). The role of informal learning in adults' literacy proficiency

This study used the Programme for International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) dataset to examine informal literacy learning’s effects on adults’ literacy proficiency. Also, the factors associated with informal literacy learning at and outside of work were studied. The study participants were Nordic adults aged 35–65 years. The statistical method was regression analysis, and the results indicate that informal literacy activities at work are associated primarily with occupation, and informal literacy activities outside of work with education, parents’ education and gender. The thesis consists of a case study of the relation between the EU and a Mexican NGO, where I am trying to determine its effect on the formulation of public policies protecting women’s rights. Masteroppgaven handler om flerkulturelle kvinner i arbeidslivet. Jeg tar opp temaer som har vist seg viktige for å forstå flerkulturelle kvinners situasjon på det norske arbeidsmarkedet. Master's thesis in Sociology and social work (ME524) This thesis mainly centers around associate professors and what they express to be their core personal values with respect to work and life, in general, where these values are discussed in a gender perspective. Fewer women, than men, reach professorship at universities, and men on average also achieve this academic goal faster than women.
