[Comparing two different techniques to assess the appropriateness of admissions provided in the emergency room of a pediatric hospital].

2007

Two different techniques aimed to assess the appropriateness of hospital utilisation were used to study the same sample of clinical records of admissions provided during 2001 by the emergency room of a pediatric sicilian hospital. The first technique estimated the '"high risk of inappropriateness" DRGs prevalence, according to the Decreto del Presidente del Consiglio dei Ministri of 29 Novembre 2001, and the second was the pediatric version of the Appropriateness Evaluation Protocol (AEP), based on clinical characteristics of patients and complexity of assistance provided. The comparison of results did not show any agreement between the two techniques (kappa= 0,031, C. I. 95%: from -0,001 t…

Tiempos felices: Transformaciones en las tecnologías psicológicas de gobierno de la subjetividad

2020

This paper traces some inflections in the psy disciplines? discourses and technologies for the government of subjectivity during the last decades. It is focused on exploring different mechanisms through which psychological disciplines ?their discourses, techniques and practices? penetrate social life and contribute to establishing subject models consistent with transformations in the political and economic rationalities of late capitalism. Drawing on previous research in the field of gender politics and happiness discourses in the pop psychological culture, I track a line with three moments: i) the production of psychological individuality and identity normalization; ii) the proliferation o…

Sea urchin deciliation induces thermoresistance and activates the p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase pathway.

2003

In this study, we demonstrate by a variety of approaches (ie, morphological analysis, Western blots, immunolocalization, and the use of specific antibodies) that hyperosmotic deciliation stress of sea urchin embryos induces a thermotolerant response. Deciliation is also able to activate a phosphorylation signaling cascade the effector of which might be the p38 stress-activated protein kinase because we found that the administration of the p38 inhibitor SB203580 to sea urchin deciliated gastrula embryos makes the hyperosmotic deciliation stress lethal.

Pediatric Recurrent Pericarditis: Appropriateness of the Standard of Care and Response to IL-1 Blockade

2022

Objective: To analyze, in a cohort of pediatric patients with recurrent pericarditis undergoing anti-interleukin (IL)-1 treatment: the agent and dosing used as first-line treatment, the long-term efficacy of IL-1 blockers, the percentage of patients achieving a drug-free remission, and the presence of variables associated with drug-free remission. Study design: Data were collected from patients' charts. The annualized relapse rate (ARR) was used for evaluation of treatment efficacy, and bivariate logistic regression analysis was used for variables associated with drug-free remission. Results: Fifty-eight patients, treated between 2008 and 2018, were included in the study (mean follow-up. 2.…

Performing arts and mediation technology in the period of lockdown

2021

Advancements in digital technologies have become novel ways to enrich communication, expression, and transmission of arts knowledge. Technology is increasingly implemented in the performance space, as a source of inspiration for artists. Especially in this period of lockdown, mediation technology has turned out to be an essential tool for different aspects of social life, as in performing arts. With venues, schools and artistic activities closed, performers, students and spectators have been obliged to keep connecting in remote conditions. This article wants to retrace the aesthetic impact of mediation technology in performing arts during this period of lockdown by focusing on the aspects t…

De la performance musicale dans la Guyane traditionnelle : expression cognitive singulière d?une musique-verbe

2021

Guianese culture and traditional music, here evoked, are various. It is more a transcultural process that, along centuries, gave an original result born in the Americas, in Guiana in this case. It is a form of refoundation, of recreation of cultures and new human beings generally called Creoles. The musical performance, that I study here, is the echo of social and cultural space of this reformulation of thought, life, and conception of the world. It is, as well, a mean of transposition and transformation of the values issued of diverse sources and categories. It is in no way a second-rate cultural practice, as it is the place where were born philosophies and actions for common life as well …

as it is the place where were born philosophies and actions for common life as well as for individual life. This organization of the musical experience requires several levels of readings to better understand the underlying performance that is the issue discussed here. What is then the subject of the musical performance in French Guianese traditional society? What are the implementation techniques and the intrinsic forms of knowledge? What is the creation process and for what goal? Without a doubtlifeUNESCO::CIENCIAS DE LAS ARTES Y LAS LETRASand conception of the world. Probiotics in the prevention and treatment of atopic dermatitis

2020

The use of probiotic supplements might change the composition of the intestinal flora of children, subsequently modulating the immune system's reactivity. The effects of probiotic administration for the prevention/treatment of allergic diseases and atopic dermatitis, in particular, are still so controversial that no definitive recommendation can be made at this stage. Differences in strain specificity, timing, and length of administration all contribute to diversifying the conclusions of this review.

SAIApp: a web application of the university of palermo dedicated to children with autoinflammatory syndromes

2021

Introduction: The recent epidemic strongly evidenced the necessity of reorganizing physician work, patients’ access to clinics and patient support, especially for chronic diseases. In this field, a good strategy must consider the integration between department pediatricians, multidisciplinary specialists and pediatricians in private practice. Besides, adequate standards of care must be ensured especially for children affected by chronic diseases, as Autoinflammatory syndromes. Objectives: These children need to monitor clinical manifestations, attacks-free intervals, treatment adherence and response, onset of short- and long-term complications. This surveillance is a fundamental step to gua…
