Tissue bioaccumulation patterns, xenobiotic biotransformation and steroid hormone levels in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) fed a diet containing perfl…

2011

In the present study, groups of juvenile Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) were fed gelatine capsules containing fish-food spiked with PFOA or PFOS (0.2 mg kg(-1) fish) and solvent (methanol). The capsules were given at days 0, 3 and 6. Blood, liver and whole kidney samples were collected prior to exposure (no solvent control), and at days 2, 5, 8 and 14 after exposure (Note: that day 14 after exposure is equal to 7d recovery period). We report on the differences in the tissue bioaccumulation patterns of PFOS and PFOA, in addition to tissue and compound differences in modulation pattern of biotransformation enzyme genes. We observed that the level of PFOS and PFOA increased in the blood, liver …

Mapping symbols to sounds: electrophysiological correlates of the impaired reading process in dyslexia

2012

Dyslexic and control first-grade school children were compared in a Symbol-to-Sound matching test based on a non-linguistic audiovisual training which is known to have a remediating effect on dyslexia. Visual symbol patterns had to be matched with predicted sound patterns. Sounds incongruent with the corresponding visual symbol (thus not matching the prediction) elicited the N2b and P3a event-related potential (ERP) components relative to congruent sounds in control children. Their ERPs resembled the ERP effects previously reported for healthy adults with this paradigm. In dyslexic children, N2b onset latency was delayed and its amplitude significantly reduced over left hemisphere whereas P…

Neural Responses to Musical Rhythm in Chinese Children With Reading Difficulties

2020

The perception of the musical rhythm has been suggested as one of the predicting factors for reading abilities. Several studies have demonstrated that children with reading difficulties (RD) show reduced neural sensitivity in musical rhythm perception. Despite this prior evidence, the association between music and reading in Chinese is still controversial. In the present study, we sought to answer the question of whether the musical rhythm perception of Chinese children with RD is intact or not, providing further clues on how reading and music might be interlinked across languages. Oddball paradigm was adapted for testing the difference of musical rhythm perception, including predictable an…

Clinical implications ofCYP3Apolymorphisms

2006

Due to their enormous substrate spectrum CYP3A4, -3A5 and -3A7 constitute the most important drug-metabolising enzyme subfamily in humans. CYP3As are expressed predominantly, but not exclusively, in the liver and intestine, where they participate in the metabolism of 45 - 60% of currently used drugs and many other compounds such as steroids and carcinogens. CYP3A expression and activity vary interindividually due to a combination of genetic and nongenetic factors such as hormone and health status, and the impact of environmental stimuli. Over the past several years, genetic determinants have been identified for much of the variable expression of CYP3A5 and -3A7, but not for CYP3A4. Using th…

Limiting Carleman weights and conformally transversally anisotropic manifolds

2020

We analyze the structure of the set of limiting Carleman weights in all conformally flat manifolds, 3 3 -manifolds, and 4 4 -manifolds. In particular we give a new proof of the classification of Euclidean limiting Carleman weights, and show that there are only three basic such weights up to the action of the conformal group. In dimension three we show that if the manifold is not conformally flat, there could be one or two limiting Carleman weights. We also characterize the metrics that have more than one limiting Carleman weight. In dimension four we obtain a complete spectrum of examples according to the structure of the Weyl tensor. In particular, we construct unimodular Lie groups whose …

Spectral multipliers and wave equation for sub-Laplacians: lower regularity bounds of Euclidean type

2018

Let $\mathscr{L}$ be a smooth second-order real differential operator in divergence form on a manifold of dimension $n$. Under a bracket-generating condition, we show that the ranges of validity of spectral multiplier estimates of Mihlin--H\"ormander type and wave propagator estimates of Miyachi--Peral type for $\mathscr{L}$ cannot be wider than the corresponding ranges for the Laplace operator on $\mathbb{R}^n$. The result applies to all sub-Laplacians on Carnot groups and more general sub-Riemannian manifolds, without restrictions on the step. The proof hinges on a Fourier integral representation for the wave propagator associated with $\mathscr{L}$ and nondegeneracy properties of the sub…

Gallium preference for the occupation of tetrahedral sites in Lu3(Al5-xGax)O12multicomponent garnet scintillators according to solid-state nuclear ma…

2019

Abstract In this study, the distributions of aluminum and gallium atoms over the tetrahedral and octahedral sites in the garnet structure were investigated in mixed Lu3Al5-xGaxO12 crystals by using 27Al and 71Ga magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and single crystal 71Ga NMR. The experimental study was supported by theoretical calculations based on density functional theory (DFT) in order to predict the trends in terms of the substitutions of Al by Ga in the mixed garnets. Both the experimental and theoretical results indicated the non-uniform distribution of Al and Ga over the tetrahedral and octahedral sites in the garnet structure, with a strong preference for Ga occupy…
