Resilience in Critical infrastructure within the energy sector of Norway
2021
Master's thesis in Cyber security (IS507) This thesis investigates what are the characteristics of resilience within the energy sector, as well as what are the "best” known practices being used to increase awareness of the employees. By looking at the existing literature and finding differences between how the energy sector in Norway vs other nations approaches resilience. There is a difference in Norway's more decentralized power grid, where many smaller power stations supply energy, compared to other nation with single large power station. This influences how they will approach resilience. The study uses a qualitative research approach, with semi-structured interviews to gather data from …
Organisaation vihreä työkalu : Green Office -ympäristöjärjestelmän vaikutukset organisaatiossa
2010
Motivational Impact of Environmental Management on the Environmental Awareness in a Workplace
2021
PURPOSE: The aim of this article is to determine the level of motivational impact of environmental management (EM) on the environmental awareness of employees.
Worldwide Diffusion of ISO 14001 Standard
2008
We conduct an empirical examination of national conditions that promote the diffusion of the ISO 14001 standard. Our estimates confirm earlier studies on several determinants. While environmental considerations are important in the diffusion of the ISO 14001 standard, we show that other factors play a significant role as well, such as the prior diffusion of ISO 9000 and the country’s education level. Our main contribution is to provide empirical evidence for the hypothesis that the participation of a country or an economic sector in the standard-setting process is a major driver of its future adoption of the standard.
In situ recordings of large gelatinous spheres from NE Atlantic, and the first genetic confirmation of egg mass of Illex coindetii (Vérany, 1839) (Ce…
2021
AbstractIn total, 90 gelatinous spheres, averaging one meter in diameter, have been recorded from ~ 1985 to 2019 from the NE Atlantic Ocean, including the Mediterranean Sea, using citizen science. More than 50% had a dark streak through center. They were recorded from the surface to ~ 60–70 m depth, mainly neutrally buoyant, in temperatures between 8 and 24°C. Lack of tissue samples has until now, prohibited confirmation of species. However, in 2019 scuba divers secured four tissue samples from the Norwegian coast. In the present study, DNA analysis using COI confirms species identity as the ommastrephid broadtail shortfin squid Illex coindetii (Vérany, 1839); these are the first confirmed …
Inertial response of isolated power networks with wind power plants
2019
The constant increase of power generation provided by renewable energy source (RES) power plants is causing a progressive reduction of the overall inertia of the power systems. Especially in the case of small, isolated power networks, the replacement of conventional generation plants with RES power plants can affect significantly the frequency response of the system. The critical low-inertia conditions can be improved by the introduction of specific additional controls to the RES power converters. These control schemes are known as “synthetic inertia” or “virtual inertia” controls. The paper analyzes the impact of a derivative-based inertial control on a small, isolated power system, with a…
System Stability of a Small Island's Network with Different Levels of Wind Power Penetration
2018
The reduction of the inertial response of the generation system has been one of the main obstacles to the penetration of high sharing of renewable energy sources in islanded systems. This issue can be solved thanks to innovative control that makes wind turbines able to provide the so-named synthetic inertia. The paper investigates some scenarios with different levels of wind power penetration in a small island whose grid is not supplied by the main grid, by the use of the software NEPLAN 360, simulating the wind power plants accordingly to the standard IEC 61400-27. The aim of the paper is to assess the maximum level of penetration in the island of wind generation, with traditional control …

A Framework for Assessing the Condition of Crowds Exposed to a Fire Hazard Using a Probabilistic Model
2014
Published version of an article in the journal: International Journal of Machine Learning and Computing. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.7763/IJMLC.2014.V4.379 open Access Allocating limited resources in an optimal manner when rescuing victims from a hazard is a complex and error prone task, because the involved hazards are typically evolving over time; stagnating, building up or diminishing. Typical error sources are: miscalculation of resource availability and the victims’ condition. Thus, there is a need for decision support when it comes to rapidly predicting where the human fatalities are likely to occur to ensure timely rescue. This paper proposes a probabil…
The expectations and perceived usefulness to a future secure "net-health" portal for patients with chronic diseases
2006
Masteroppgave i informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi 2006 - Høgskolen i Agder, Grimstad The recent advancements in technology are constantly changing the way healthcare is practiced and delivered. The number of patients receiving treatment at home will increase. The Internet as a source of information and a tool for electronic communication empowers the patient and put demands on the healthcare profession to allow the patient’s active participation and control of his own situation. Putting the patient in the centre, the main focus in this study will be asking the patients what they will need in future services concerning communication between healthcare personnel and themselves, within …
