Transition to a fossil- and emission-free construction industry
2018
Master's thesis Industrial Economics and Technology Management IND590 - University of Agder 2018 The object for this thesis is to see how Nettpartner, which is Norway’s largest electrical infrastructure contractor, can contribute to the green change in the construction industry. To go green has become a big topic in the Norwegian construction industry during the last few years, and in 2017 a report concluded that the Norwegian construction industry could reduce their emissions of greenhouse gases with close to 99 % if the industry planned better before they started building. The method used in this research is the constructive research. The aim of constructive research is to solve practical…
Flow characteristics and dynamic responses of a parked straight‐bladed vertical axis wind turbine
2019
Abstract With the development of urbanization and the application of renewable energy, wind turbine is becoming an important approach for wind energy reservation and utilization. This study provides a numerical investigation on understanding the surface pressure distribution, flow characteristics and dynamic responses of a parked straight‐bladed vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT), which is helpful for its design. Together with the two‐way coupling method between simulation platforms such as STAR‐CCM+ and ABAQUS, the SST k‐ω turbulence model is used to obtain the surface pressure and surrounding flow of the VAWT, and the finite element method is used to obtain the dynamic responses of its str…

Analysis of Electrical Loads and Strategies for Increasing Self-Consumption with BIPV Case study : Skarpnes Zero-Energy House
2017
Master's thesis Renewable Energy ENE500 - University of Agder 2017 At Skarpnes village (Southern Norway), the houses as zero energy buildings (ZEB) are installed with Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) systems, and these houses are not containing smart control of equipments. The aim of such buildings is that the amount of electrical energy produced is the same as that consumed in the buildings on an annual basis. In this thesis, the main objective is to analyse the methods for increasing self -consumption in BIPV, by minimizing the cost of purchasing electricity from the grid at time with no PV production, and maximizing the utilization of solar PV generated power, which reduces the po…

Epigenetic transcriptional repression of tumor suppresor genes and its reversion by drugs.
2005
Genetic alterations and deregulation of the epigenetic mechanisms collaborate in the initiation and progression of cancer. In contrast to the genetic defects, the epigenetic abnormalities are potentially reversible. This fact has driven the search for drugs that induce selectively changes in the epigenetic patterns of the tumor cells and thus lead to differentiation, cell death and/or cell growth arrest. Inhibitors of DNA (cytosine-5)-methyltransferases (DNMTs) and inhibitors of Zn(II)-dependent histone deacetylases (HDACs) have been developed with this purpose. The DNMTs inhibitors allow the reactivation of genes, including tumor-suppressor genes, silenced through hypermethylation of the C…
