GW170817: Observation of Gravitational Waves from a Binary Neutron Star Inspiral

On August 17, 2017 at 12-41:04 UTC the Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo gravitational-wave detectors made their first observation of a binary neutron star inspiral. The signal, GW170817, was detected with a combined signal-to-noise ratio of 32.4 and a false-alarm-rate estimate of less than one per 8.0×104 years. We infer the component masses of the binary to be between 0.86 and 2.26 M, in agreement with masses of known neutron stars. Restricting the component spins to the range inferred in binary neutron stars, we find the component masses to be in the range 1.17-1.60 M, with the total mass of the system 2.74-0.01+0.04M. The increased emphasis on renewable energy has resulted in a surge of R&D efforts into hydrogen and battery research. The intensive electrochemical environment surrounding the anodic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) has plagued both the activity and stability of the catalytic layer, substrate and porous transport layer, ultimately affecting both these industries. Herein, we report the benefits of potential cycling (PC) a 316L stainless steel felt porous transport layer (PTL) for use in anion exchange membrane water electrolysis. Framing Effects on Online Security Behavior

We conducted an incentivized lab experiment examining the effect of gain vs. loss-framed warning messages on online security behavior. We measured the probability of suffering a cyberattack during the experiment as the result of five specific security behaviors: choosing a safe connection, providing minimum information during the sign-up process, choosing a strong password, choosing a trusted vendor, and logging-out. A loss-framed message led to more secure behavior during the experiment. The experiment also measured the effect of trusting beliefs and cybersecurity knowledge. Trusting beliefs had a negative effect on security behavior, while cybersecurity knowledge had a positive effect.

Vuoden 1997 työmarkkinatukiuudistuksen tavoitteena oli aktivoida alle 25-vuotiaiden ammattikouluttamattomien nuorten osallistumista työmarkkinoille ja koulutukseen. Tässä artikkelissa raportoidaan arvioita uudistuksen vaikutuksista 22–24-vuotiaiden NEET-asteeseen, joka mittaa työvoiman ulkopuolella ja työttömänä olevien osuutta ikäryhmästä. Tilastollisessa tarkastelussa hyödynnetään Tilastokeskuksen rekisteriaineistoa. Tutkimusmenetelmänä on difference-in-differences – analyysi, jossa uudistuksen kohteeksi joutuneen toimenpideryhmän työmarkkinakehitystä verrataan verrokkiryhmän kehitykseen. A probabilistic long‐term framework for site‐specific erosion analysis of wind turbine blades: A case study of 31 Dutch sites

Abstract Rain‐induced leading‐edge erosion (LEE) of wind turbine blades (WTBs) is associated with high repair and maintenance costs. The effects of LEE can be triggered in less than 1 to 2 years for some wind turbine sites, whereas it may take several years for others. In addition, the growth of erosion may also differ for different blades and turbines operating at the same site. Hence, LEE is a site‐ and turbine‐specific problem. Realistinen optimismi ja toiveikkuus: ammatillisen kuntoutuksen osapuolten näköalat suomalaiseen työelämään

Tässä artikkelissa tarkastelemme Kelan työllistymistä edistävän ammatillisen kuntoutuksen osapuolten kuvauksia suomalaisesta työelämästä. Keskitymme erityisesti työelämään liittyvien myönteisten näköalojen ja niissä esiintyvän optimismin analysointiin. Toivo ja optimismi ovat aiemmissa tutkimuksissa osoittautuneet merkityksellisiksi tekijöiksi työhön paluun prosesseissa. Aineiston muodostivat kuntoutujien, omaohjaajien ja työnantajien haastattelut (47 kappaletta). Artikkelimme käsittelee keskijohdon asemaa tietotyön, tässä tapauksessa yliopistotyön, organisoinnissa. Tutkimuksen empiria perustuu haastatteluaineistoon, joka on osa laajempaa etnografista aineistoa.
