PSIM-Based Hardware and Software Design of an Inverter-Fed Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor
2018
Master's thesis Renewable Energy ENE500 - University of Agder 2018 The purpose of this research is to design a PSIM based controller for an inverter-fed Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM). The dimensioning and assembly of the controller are presented. The control algorithm used for the PMSM is Field Oriented Control (FOC). The report includes the theory of the control algorithm and its design. A PSIM based model is designed with the dimensioned components to analyse the behaviour of the controller. The model gives the opportunity of tuning the controller and verifying it with simulations. The model is then converted to be SimCoder compatible, enabling the simulation to be generated i…
Power Prediction of Photovoltaic System using Neural Network Models
2019
Master's thesis Renewable Energy ENE500 - University of Agder 2019 This workconsidersa photovoltaic (PV)system installed on the rooftop of Agder Energi’s headquarters located at Kjøita, Kristiansand. The system includes three different types of solar PV modules; Suntech (multi-Si), Sharp (a-Si/μ-Si) and REC (multi-Si), that have a total installed DC capacity of 45 kWp. The system is grid-connected and instrumented for research and monitoring purposes.Artificial Neural Network(ANN)models were trained to obtain the lowest mean square error(MSE), by testing different configurations using a model-based trial and error approach. The modelconfigurations that gavethe lowest(MSE) wereused to predic…
Design of an Alkaline Electrolysis Stack
2017
Master's thesis Renewable Energy ENE500 - University of Agder 2017 Renewable energy promises a green energy future for the world. Hence, the electrol- ysis process has been identi ed as the most important method to produce hydrogen using renewable energy source. Moreover, during the last few years, people have enhanced the interest to expand and use the alkaline water electrolysis technology in di erent elds. Thus, the design of high performance compact electrolysis stack according to the selected speci cation is very important. The main purpose of this research work is to design and fabricate a compact high performance electrolysis stack and to observe the electrolysis performance. Under t…
Fuel Characterization and Process Analysis of Hydrothermal Liquefaction of Algae
2017
Master's thesis Renewable Energy ENE500 - University of Agder 2017 The conversion of microalgae to biocrude by hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) is a technology that could reduce the use of fossil fuels. The aim of this study was to provide insight in the fuel characterization and process analysis of algae HTL. Three microalgae species were provided for the fuel characterization. The Phaeodactylum tricornutum algae were received as a slurry, while the Spirulina platensis and Chlorella vulgaris were received as dried powders. Experiments by TGA, proximate and ultimate analysis were performed on the three algae species. A process analysis of algae HTL was carried out in Aspen Plus. Properties f…
Design and Fabrication of Solar Water Distillation System for Developing Countries
2017
Master's thesis Renewable Energy ENE500 - University of Agder 2017 The local population in Somalia is experiencing a shortage of fresh drinking water due to high salt content in the ground water. The humanitarian organization Yme is a big contributor for providing clean and safe drinking water for local communities. Yme is interested in building an effective water distillation system to improve the water quality and better the health situation in the country. The main goal of this thesis was to contribute to improving water quality by building a solar water distillation system. As the system is meant for local communities in Somalia, the technology should be easy and without modern control …
Biochar-pellets as substitute for fossil coal in metallurgical processes
2018
Master's thesis Renewable Energy ENE500 - University of Agder 2018 This thesis serves as a base for later research on substituting fossil coal and coke with biochar in the Norwegian metallurgical industry. Because Norwegian electricity production is almost entirely based on carbon dioxide - neutral hydropower, the nation’s main pollutant is fossil coal. Biochar serves as an alternative to coal but can currently only partially satisfy the quality requirements for use in top-loaded smelting facilities. With comparison to fossil coal, biochar has a higher price and a lower mechanical strength. A coupling of pyrolysis and pelletising is therefore investigated to obtain a sustainable product wit…
South Pole glacial climate reconstruction from multi-borehole laser particulate stratigraphy
2013
AbstractThe IceCube Neutrino Observatory and its prototype, AMANDA, were built in South Pole ice, using powerful hot-water drills to cleanly bore>100 holes to depths up to 2500 m. The construction of these particle physics detectors provided a unique opportunity to examine the deep ice sheet using a variety of novel techniques. We made high-resolution particulate profiles with a laser dust logger in eight of the boreholes during detector commissioning between 2004 and 2010. The South Pole laser logs are among the most clearly resolved measurements of Antarctic dust strata during the last glacial period and can be used to reconstruct paleoclimate records in exceptional detail. Here we use…
Fornøyd med litt men ønsker seg likevel mer : gir nye versjoner av EPJ-system i helse- og omsorgssektoren i kommunene kontinuerlig forbedring?
2016
Masteroppgave i helse- og sosialinformatikk- Universitetet i Agder, 2016 Continuous development in health- and care services leads to the electronic patient record (EPR) systems to become more complex. It is important for municipalities to have systems that work, and acts as a support for workflows of everyday life, so that information regarding the patients are easily accessible and accurate. It is therefore important that new versions of EPR systems are delivered with good quality. This study focuses on municipalities' challenges with developing, testing and implementing new versions of old EPR system in health- and caregiving services. A qualitative study is conductet, with interviews of…
Economic Value Added – A General Review of the Concept
2017
Business organizations of the 21st century, a century driven by globalization, internationalization and speed, must compete on changing and evolving markets. One of the maingoals of every business is to create value for its shareholders, value that is generated by the properusage of existing resources. The notion that can be utilized to successfully illustrate the increase ineconomic value is the economic value added concept.. The Economic Value Added concept knownalso as EVA is an add on to value, value based management and economic value.. EVA is a methodand a tool for quantification and measurement of the value created by a business organization.
