CArDIS : A Swedish Historical Handwritten Character and Word Dataset
2022
This paper introduces a new publicly available image-based Swedish historical handwritten character and word dataset named Character Arkiv Digital Sweden (CArDIS) (https://cardisdataset.github.io/CARDIS/). The samples in CArDIS are collected from 64, 084 Swedish historical documents written by several anonymous priests between 1800 and 1900. The dataset contains 116, 000 Swedish alphabet images in RGB color space with 29 classes, whereas the word dataset contains 30, 000 image samples of ten popular Swedish names as well as 1, 000 region names in Sweden. To examine the performance of different machine learning classifiers on CArDIS dataset, three different experiments are conducted. In the …
Measurement of hard double-parton interactions inW(???) + 2-jet events at $\sqrt{s}\,=7$ TeV with the ATLAS detector
2013
The production of W bosons in association with two jets in proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of √s=7 TeV has been analysed for the presence of double-parton interactions using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb[superscript −1], collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The fraction of events arising from double-parton interactions, f[superscript (D) over subscript DP], has been measured through the p[subscript T] balance between the two jets and amounts to f[superscript (D) over subscript DP] = 0.08 ± 0.01 (stat.) ± 0.02 (sys.) for jets with transverse momentum p[subscript T] > 20 GeV and rapidity |y| < 2.8. This corresponds to a …
Spectrum cartography techniques, challenges, opportunities, and applications: A survey
2021
The spectrum cartography finds applications in several areas such as cognitive radios, spectrum aware communications, machine-type communications, Internet of Things, connected vehicles, wireless sensor networks, and radio frequency management systems, etc. This paper presents a survey on state-of-the-art of spectrum cartography techniques for the construction of various radio environment maps (REMs). Following a brief overview on spectrum cartography, various techniques considered to construct the REMs such as channel gain map, power spectral density map, power map, spectrum map, power propagation map, radio frequency map, and interference map are reviewed. In this paper, we compare the pe…
uMemristorToolbox: Open source framework to control memristors in Unity for ternary applications
2020
This paper presents uMemristorToolbox, a novel open source framework that reads and writes non-volatile ternary states to memristors. The Unity (C#) framework is a port of the open source Java project Memristor-Discovery and adds a closed-loop ternary memory controller to enable both PC and real-time embedded ternary applications. We validate the closed-loop ternary memory controller in an embedded system case study with 16 M+SDC Tungsten dopant memristors. We measure an average switching speed of 3 Hz, worst case energy usage of 1 μW per switch, 0.03% random write error and no decay in (non-volatile) state retention after 15 minutes. We conclude with observations and open questions when wo…
Optimizing the Performance of Data Warehouse by Query Cache Mechanism
2022
Fast access of data from Data Warehouse (DW) is a need for today’s Business Intelligence (BI). In the era of Big Data, the cache is regarded as one of the most effective techniques to improve the performance of accessing data. DW has been widely used by several organizations to manage data and use it for Decision Support System (DSS). Many methods have been used to optimize the performance of fetching data from DW. Query cache method is one of those methods that play an effective role in optimization. The proposed work is based on a cache-based mechanism that helps DW in two aspects: the first one is to reduce the execution time by directly accessing records from cache memory, and th…
Escape planning in realistic fire scenarios with Ant Colony Optimisation
2014
Published version of an article from the journal:Applied Intelligence Also available on Springerlink: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s10489-014-0538-9 An emergency requiring evacuation is a chaotic event, filled with uncertainties both for the people affected and rescuers. The evacuees are often left to themselves for navigation to the escape area. The chaotic situation increases when predefined escape routes are blocked by a hazard, and there is a need to re-think which escape route is safest. This paper addresses automatically finding the safest escape routes in emergency situations in large buildings or ships with imperfect knowledge of the hazards. The proposed solution, based on Ant Colony …
Sourdough Fermentation Degrades Wheat Alpha-Amylase/Trypsin Inhibitor (ATI) and Reduces Pro-Inflammatory Activity
2020
The ingestion of gluten-containing foods can cause wheat-related disorders in up to 15% of wheat consuming populations. Besides the role of gluten, &alpha
Remote ECG Monitoring by ECG247 Smart Heart Sensor
2022
Background. Heart rhythm disorders are common and may be associated with serious complications. The quality of the ECG signal is crucial to detect and classify arrhythmias. Most available devices for assessment arrhythmias do not allow for remote monitoring. The Norwegian ECG247 Smart Heart Sensor is a new remote patch monitor developed to simplify the assessment of arrhythmias. This study was aimed at evaluating the quality of the ECG signal from the ECG247 Smart Heart Sensor compared to standard 12-lead ECG. Methods. ECG recordings with ECG247 Smart Heart Sensor and a standard 12-lead ECG recorder were performed in 97 volunteers at Sorlandet Hospital, Arendal, Norway, in 2019. All ECGs we…
Personalized Recommendations for Physical Activity e-Coaching (OntoRecoModel): Ontological Modeling.
2021
Background Automatic e-coaching may motivate individuals to lead a healthy lifestyle with early health risk prediction, personalized recommendation generation, and goal evaluation. Multiple studies have reported on uninterrupted and automatic monitoring of behavioral aspects (such as sedentary time, amount, and type of physical activity); however, e-coaching and personalized feedback techniques are still in a nascent stage. Current intelligent coaching strategies are mostly based on the handcrafted string messages that rarely individualize to each user’s needs, context, and preferences. Therefore, more realistic, flexible, practical, sophisticated, and engaging strategies are needed to mod…
HL7 FHIR with SNOMED-CT to Achieve Semantic and Structural Interoperability in Personal Health Data: A Proof-of-Concept Study
2022
Heterogeneity is a problem in storing and exchanging data in a digital health information system (HIS) following semantic and structural integrity. The existing literature shows different methods to overcome this problem. Fast healthcare interoperable resources (FHIR) as a structural standard may explain other information models, (e.g., personal, physiological, and behavioral data from heterogeneous sources, such as activity sensors, questionnaires, and interviews) with semantic vocabularies, (e.g., Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine—Clinical Terms (SNOMED-CT)) to connect personal health data to an electronic health record (EHR). We design and develop an intuitive health coaching (eCoach…
