CFD-simuleringer med plasserte hindringer i utløpet til Brokke kraftstasjon for reduksjon av gassovermetning i Otra
2019
Masteroppgave fornybar energi ENE500 - Universitetet i Agder 2019 If air is drawn into the intake system of a power plant, super saturated gas may develop.Super saturated gas can occur if air is dissolved in water under a pressure higher than theatmospheric pressure. Downstream Brokke power plant measurements of super saturatedgas values up to 176% have been reported. It has been shown that super saturated gasover 110% can lead to fish death, and measures should be considered to reduce the totaldissolved gas in Otra.In this study, various measures for reducing super saturated gas in the outlet of Brokkepower station are investigated by using CFD-simulations in Ansys and modeling in Mat-lab.…
Electromagnetic and thermal modelling for prognosis of distribution transformer
2018
Master's thesis Renewable Energy ENE500 - University of Agder 2018 In this thesis numerical modelling of electromagnetics and thermodynamic of a distribution transformer was studied. The model is based on two 5 MVA three phase distribution transformers located in Uleberg (Norway) owned by Agder Energi. The results include magnetic flux density in the core, current density, heat loss density and temperature distribution in the transformer. The maximum temperature of the transformer operating at full load with cooling fans turned on and ambient temperature 20 C, reached the expected value based on temperature measurements from the transformers in Uleberg provided by Agder Energi. The results …
Photovoltaic facade systems in Norway: An assessment of energy performance, building integration, and costs
2018
Master's thesis Renewable Energy ENE500 - University of Agder 2018 In this master thesis, different PV facade systems located in Norway have been evaluated and analyzed. It will thus contribute to the ongoing development of a national database of BIPV. Also, technical and economic aspects of the PV systems are analyzed. Data series from the web-based monitoring systems have been evaluated, cross-sections of the PV facades are examined, and the economic costs associated with the PV systems have been evaluated. The specific yield and cost of the analyzed cases have been compared with simulated data and traditionally clothed facades and with each other. The results showed that the facade PV sy…
Simulating the thermal potential for energy storage in an electric water heater tank
2018
Master's thesis Renewable Energy ENE500 - University of Agder 2018 This thesis uses a CFD model of an electric water heater tank(EWHT) to investigate the strati cation in the tank during di erent discharge experiments. Strati cation in a tank happens naturally as hot water rises to the top and cold water sinks to the bottom, due to the di erence in density of the water based on the temperature. The simulation found that for higher discharges the strati cation becomes better and it is possible to extract more hot water from the tank than at lower discharges. Although the simulation built in this study can simulate all operations of the tank separately, it has not been successful to build a m…
Lifetime Based Health Indicator for Bearings using Convolitional Neural Networks
2019
Master's thesis Renewable Energy ENE500 - University of Agder 2019 Out of all the components in rotating electrical machinery, bearings have the highest failure rate. Bearingdegradation is a seemingly random process which is hard to both model and predict. Countless of con-dition based methods and algorithms have been proposed in order to accurately diagnose incipient faultsand estimate the remaining useful lifetime of bearings. These methods are often complex and hard to im-plement. In this thesis, a data-driven method of estimating a linear lifetime based health indicator (HI)using convolutional neural networks (CNNs) is proposed. The idea behind the method is to train a CNNmodel to recog…
Experimental investigation of the temperature coefficients of Vmpp and Impp in a silicon solar cell
2018
Master's thesis Renewable Energy ENE500 - University of Agder 2019 This thesis is meant to provide an experimental investigation of the temperature coefficient(b)of Vmpp compared to Voc in amulticrystallinesilicon solar cell. With the main question being: to what degree is the temperature coefficient equal for Voc and Vmpp and how does series losses(Rs)affect the two? Also investigating the same question for Isc and Impp. Three types of multicrystalline cells have been measured using a NeonSee AAA sun simulator, for a total of 18 tested cells all produced by Elkem SolarSilicon. I-V data wascollected using temperature scan, Suns-Voc and Isc-Voc measurements, with temperatures reflecting norma…
Design of an Air Management System for a Dry Room and Utilization of Waste Heat
2021
Master's thesis in Renewable energy (ENE500) This thesis presents the design of an air management system used in a dry room fora lithium-ion battery factory using a Matlab/Simulink environment. The sizing of the system is based on the 32 GWh battery factory, currently under construction by Morrow Batteries in Arendal, Norway. The generic air management system from the literature review was used as a base for the general layout and initial values. Combining coolers and a desiccant dehumidification wheel was the optimal solution for the dehumidification system. The molecular sieve was the selected desiccant due to its high performance at low relative humidity. The outlet air quality from the …
Power Prediction of Photovoltaic System using Neural Network Models
2019
Master's thesis Renewable Energy ENE500 - University of Agder 2019 This workconsidersa photovoltaic (PV)system installed on the rooftop of Agder Energi’s headquarters located at Kjøita, Kristiansand. The system includes three different types of solar PV modules; Suntech (multi-Si), Sharp (a-Si/μ-Si) and REC (multi-Si), that have a total installed DC capacity of 45 kWp. The system is grid-connected and instrumented for research and monitoring purposes.Artificial Neural Network(ANN)models were trained to obtain the lowest mean square error(MSE), by testing different configurations using a model-based trial and error approach. The modelconfigurations that gavethe lowest(MSE) wereused to predic…
Versican and Tumor-Associated Macrophages Promotes Tumor Progression and Metastasis in Canine and Murine Models of Breast Carcinoma
2019
Versican and tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) are involved in growth and metastases in several cancers. Here, we investigated the potential role of versican, a matrix proteoglycan, and its correlation with TAMs infiltrates in different stages of two different breast cancer models: spontaneous canine mammary gland carcinomas and the murine 4T1 breast cancer model. The stromal versican expression was correlated with TAMs accumulation in tumors with an advanced stage from spontaneous canine mammary carcinoma samples. Versican expression in mice, identified in late stages of tumor progression, was associated to a high number of peri-tumoral infiltrating TAMs. Indeed, TAMs were related to a p…
Early entry events in Echovirus 30 infection
2020
Echovirus 30 (E30), a member of the enterovirus B species, is a major cause of viral meningitis, targeting children and adults alike. While it is a frequently isolated enterovirus and the cause of several outbreaks all over the world, surprisingly little is known regarding its entry and replication strategy within cells. In this study, we used E30 strain Bastianni (E30B) generated from an infectious cDNA clone in order to study early entry events during infection in human RD cells. E30B required the newly discovered Fc echovirus receptor (FcRn) for successful infection, but not the coxsackievirus and adenovirus receptor (CAR) or decay-accelerating factor (DAF), although an interaction with …
