Land Snail Fauna of “Porţile de Fier” (“Iron Gates”) Nature Park (Banat, Romania)
2014
Abstract The paper presents an analysis of terrestrial mollusc fauna of the “Iron Gates” Nature Park. Various types of habitats (e.g. forests, rocks, riparian areas) and substrates (e.g. limestone, conglomerate, crystalline schist) were analyzed. A total of 45 species of terrestrial gastropods were identified in 17 sampling points, four of which are mentioned for the first time in the area. Six other species cited in the literature were not found. Limestone substrate allows the development of large populations of terrestrial gastropods, but the specific diversity is larger when it is associated with a forest habitat. The current legal and illegal exploitation of limestone threatens the moll…
Benthic Macroinvertebrate Communities in the Northern Tributaries of the “Iron Gates” Gorge (Danube River)
2014
Abstract The paper presents the structure of the benthonic macro-invertebrates communities in the Berzasca, Sirinia, Liubcova, and Mraconia rivers. The results are based on quantitative benthos samples (95 samples), collected in July 2014 from 19 sampling stations within the study area. In longitudinal profile, the benthonic macro-invertebrate communities of the Sirinia, Liubcova and Berzasca rivers displays relatively large structural variability, while the communities of the Mraconia River displays smaller structural variability. The structure of the benthonic macro-invertebrate communities correlated with the biotope characteristics indicates the good ecological status of the analysed ri…
Suport System for the Management of the Sabanejewia aurata (De Filippi, 1863) Populations of the ROSCI0227 – Sighișoara-Târnava Mare
2016
Abstract ADONIS:CE was used to design a computer model for the management of Sabanejewia aurata (De Filippi, 1863) populations in the Natura 2000 site of Sighişoara-Târnava Mare (ROSCI0227). The recommended management model is based on the environmental needs of the species, inventoried according to the local habitats, as well as the indicators of conservation status and relevant management measures, and takes into account human pressures and threats identified in the research area. Such computer models were established for all protected fish species found at the site ROSCI0227.
Meta-research in geriatric medicine: a survey of the Italian Society of Hospital and Community Geriatrics (SIGOT)
2020
The need for major information in meta-research (i.e. the part of medicine interested in systematic reviews [SRs] and meta-analyses [MAs]) is increasing. In the last years we are observing an exponential rate of publications as SRs/MAs in geriatric medicine. In order to better assess the interest in meta-research, we proposed a survey to know the knowledge and the needs in meta-research in geriatrics. A short survey (about 5 minutes) was freely available in the Italian Society of Hospital and Community Geriatrics (SIGOT) website and diffused in social networks. The survey was available during the entire 2019. The survey regards demographic information, previous research activities and the k…
The Aged Lower Urinary Tract: Deficits in Neural Control Mechanisms.
2021
Bothersome urinary symptoms plague many older adults and disproportionally affect women. Underreporting of symptoms and general stigma/embarrassment associated with incontinence has negatively impacted the availability of treatments, as research cannot be championed if the severity of the problem is not apparent. Available therapeutics have limited efficacy and are often not recommended in aged patients. Lower urinary tract function has a long and rich history in animal studies; while much of the underlying anatomy has been described, including neural control mechanisms, the impact of aging has only just begun to be addressed. Recent work has provided strong evidence that neural control ove…

The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of a specific APA intervention program in the improvement of the health-related quality of life (QOL) and functional condition of spine in elderly women. Changes in Physical Activity Involvement and Attitude to Physical Activity in a 16-Year Follow-Up Study among the Elderly.
2010
We studied changes of physical activity among noninstitutionalized 65 years and older persons over a sixteen-year follow-up period. The focus of our interest was on changes in involvement, frequency, intensity, and various modes of physical activity. Furthermore, we studied changes in perceived importance, motives for, and obstacles to participation in physical activity. The results showed that the proportion of those reporting less frequent and intensive activities increased. Men were more active than women over the follow-up time (in 1988 𝑃 = . 0 1 5 , in 1996 𝑃 = . 0 0 7 , in 2004 𝑃 = . 0 0 1 ). The biggest difference at the end of the followup between men and women was found in parti…
Hearing loss and use of health services : a population-based cross-sectional study among Finnish older adults
2015
Background Older adults with hearing difficulties face problems of communication which may lead to underuse of health services. This study investigated the association of hearing loss and self-reported hearing difficulty with the use of health services and unmet health care needs in older adults. Methods Data on persons aged 65 and older (n = 2144) drawn from a population-based study, Health 2000, were analyzed. Hearing loss was determined with screening audiometry (n = 1680). Structured face-to-face interviews were used to assess self-reported hearing difficulty (n = 1962), use of health services (physician and nurse visits, health examinations, mental health services, physical therapy, he…
