MMSS: A storytelling simulation software to mitigate misinformation on social media
2022
This paper proposes a modular python implementation of a storytelling simulation. The software evaluates misinformation mitigation strategies over social media and visualizes the investigated scenarios’ potential outcomes. Our software integrates information diffusion and control models components. The control model mitigates users’ exposure to misinformation with social fairness awareness, while the diffusion model predicts the outcome from the control model. During the interaction of both models, a graph coloring algorithm traces the interaction within specific time intervals. Then, it generates meta-data to construct visuals of predicted near-future states of the social network to help s…

Investigating the User Experience of Virtual Reality Rehabilitation Solution for Biomechatronics Laboratory and Home Environment
2021
Virtual reality (VR) technology is a promising tool in physical rehabilitation. Research indicates that VR-supported rehabilitation is beneficial for task-specific training, multi-sensory feedback, diversified rehabilitation tasks, and patient motivation. Our first goal was to create a biomechatronics laboratory with a VR setup for increasing immersion and a motion platform to provide realistic feedback to patients. The second goal was to investigate possibilities to replicate features of the biomechatronics laboratory in a home-based training system using commercially available components. The laboratory comprises of a motion platform with 6-degrees-of-freedom (Rexroth eMotion), fitted wit…
Development and Testing of Web GUI Application for the LHCb VELO Data Quality Monitoring System
2014
Masteroppgave i informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi IKT590 Universitetet i Agder 2013 A great interest of IT engineers at CERN is to simplify the access to the Data Quality Monitoring(DQM) applications that usually lay behind several layers of security firewalls. In order to makeit simple and thus help to save time for the scientist who rely on this data, additional applicationfor the Web had to be developed and tested. The goal of this thesis work was to developsuch a Web DQM application for CERN. First, a Web Graphical User Interface (GUI) wasdeveloped. In parallel, an Apache server was installed and configured for testing. Moreover, software program called ROOTJS that processes and d…
On the Potential of Emerging Learning Technology Standards and Specifications to Enhance Learning Experience
2016
Master's thesis in Information- and communication technology IKT590 - University of Agder 2016 Emerging educational technologies had a significant impact on the learning environment. Nowadays, classrooms are no longer as simple as it used to be, like using chalks and blackboards. Lots of technologies (e.g. video projectors, electronic boards) have been integrated to learning environments to better support students and teachers. eLearning is one the technologies that provided virtual classrooms environments on the Web. eLearning helped teachers and students to have a better control over courses and learning process respectively. In this thesis, I had an investigation on the potential of some…

Exploring the relationship between big data analytics capability and competitive performance : The mediating roles of dynamic and operational capabil…
2020
A central question for information systems (IS) researchers and practitioners is if, and how, big data can help attain a competitive advantage. To address this question, this study draws on the resource-based view, dynamic capabilities view, and on recent literature on big data analytics, and examines the indirect relationship between a firm’s big data analytics capability (BDAC) and competitive performance. The study extends existing research by proposing that BDACs enable firms to generate insight that can help strengthen their dynamic capabilities, which, in turn, positively impact marketing and technological capabilities. To test our proposed research model, we used survey data from 202…

Confidence building measures as soft power? : a contribution to the study of international cybersecurity
2013
Masteroppgave i samfunnskommunikasjon- Universitetet i Agder 2013 The topic of this thesis is“CBMs and international cooperation within cybersecurity”. The central research question it examines is: How can the use of CBMs in diplomacy enhance international cooperation within cybersecurity? In order to investigate this issue, I decided to conduct a number of in-depth interviews with experts within this field; these two groups of experts primarily consist of diplomats and researchers. Myfindings can be divided in two parts; the first concerns consequences of the emergence of the network society for diplomacy; the second part regards possibilities and limits of CBMs within international cybers…
Development, Usability Engineering and Testing of the Video on Demand Service Filmrommet.no
2016
Master's thesis in Multimedia and Educational Technology MM500 - University of Agder 2016 This thesis describes the design outcomes and user evaluation of the redesigned Filmrommetservice, from a human-centred point of view. Research into several interdisciplinary fields, including interaction design, design principles, usability testing and usage of movies in schools have been assessed in order to design an interface that is easy to use, engages the user and presents meaningful content. Prior to starting designing the new interface, a questionnaire survey comprised of feedback from 116 Filmrommet users was conducted. The qualitative and quantitative data from the survey covering user chara…
