Cloud-screening algorithm for ENVISAT/MERIS multispectral images

This paper presents a methodology for cloud screening of multispectral images acquired with the Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) instrument on-board the Environmental Satellite (ENVISAT). The method yields both a discrete cloud mask and a cloud-abundance product from MERIS level-lb data on a per-pixel basis. The cloud-screening method relies on the extraction of meaningful physical features (e.g., brightness and whiteness), which are combined with atmospheric-absorption features at specific MERIS-band locations (oxygen and watervapor absorptions) to increase the cloud-detection accuracy. This paper presents an Internet of Things smart kitchen project that includes automation and monitoring. In this project, a system was developed that automatically detects the kitchen temperature. It also monitors the humidity level in the kitchen. This system includes built-in gas detection sensors that detect any gas leaks in the kitchen and notify the user if the gas pressure in the kitchen exceeds a certain level. We consider the robust control of a two-mass oscillator with a dominant input delay. Our aim is to compare a fractional-order tuning approach including the partial compensation of non-minimum phase zeros with a classical H∞ loop-shaping design, since both these designs lead to a relatively high controller order. First of all a detailed physical model is derived and validated using measurement data. Abstract. We present the analysis of the impact of convection on the composition of the tropical tropopause layer region (TTL) in West-Africa during the AMMA-SCOUT campaign. Geophysica M55 aircraft observations of water vapor, ozone, aerosol and CO2 during August 2006 show perturbed values at altitudes ranging from 14 km to 17 km (above the main convective outflow) and satellite data indicates that air detrainment is likely to have originated from convective cloud east of the flights. Abstract. This study has two objectives: (1) it characterizes contrails at very low temperatures and (2) it discusses convective cirrus in which the contrails occurred. (1) Long-lived contrails and cirrus from overshooting convection are investigated above the tropical tropopause at low temperatures down to −88 °C from measurements with the Russian high-altitude research aircraft M-55 Geophysica, as well as related observations during the SCOUT-O3 field experiment near Darwin, Australia, in 2005.
