Moving enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems to the cloud: the challenge of infrastructural embeddedness
2021
Cloud enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions allow organizations to support and coordinate key business processes by leveraging virtualization. Nevertheless, moving ERPs to the cloud is not straightforward, and organizational cloud ERP initiatives raise multiple concerns. We conducted an in-depth systematic review of relevant research literature and identified six key concerns related to cloud ERP implementation: a) the introduction of new ERP work arrangements, b) the migration of legacy data, c) the assurance of compliance with extant rules and regulations for security, d) the continuous alignment between ERP functionality and business processes, e) the ongoing integration between E…
Service-Oriented Architecture for Patient-Centric eHealth Solutions
2014
Doktorgradsavhandling i informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi, Universitetet i Agder, Grimstad, 2014 The world is in shortage of about 7.2 million healthcare workers in 2013, and the figure is estimated to grow to 12.9 million by 2035, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). On the other hand, the median age of the world’s population was predicted to increase from 26.6 years in 2000 to 37.3 years in 2050, and then to 45.6 years in 2100. Thus further escalating the need for new and efficient healthcare solutions. Telehealth, telecare, and Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) solutions promise to make healthcare services more sustainable, and to enable patients to live more independentl…
User Experiences and Satisfaction with an Electronic Health Record System
2019
Electronic health records have a crucial role for communication and information management in health care organizations. Electronic health records have improved the access to up-dated medical information at the point-of-care, but they have also been linked to usability issues and user problems. This paper presents a study about the user experience among health care professionals regarding an electronic health record system in Norway. Qualitative research methods were used, with interviews and observations made at a university hospital, where 14 clinical end-users of an electronic health record system contributed. The aim was to study the user experiences and the user satisfaction regarding …
Atmospheric correction of ENVISAT/MERIS data over inland waters: Validation for European lakes
2010
Traditional methods for aerosol retrieval and atmospheric correction of remote sensing data over water surfaces are based on the assumption of zero water reflectance in the near-infrared. Another type of approach which is becoming very popular in atmospheric correction over water is based on the simultaneous retrieval of atmospheric and water parameters through the inversion of coupled atmospheric and bio-optical water models. Both types of approaches may lead to substantial errors over optically-complex water bodies, such as case II waters, in which a wide range of temporal and spatial variations in the concentration of water constituents is expected. This causes the water reflectance in t…
Applying Real-Time Dynamic Scaffolding Techniques during Tutoring Sessions Using Intelligent Tutoring Systems
2022
An intelligent tutoring system (ITS) is a computer system or software application that is built to replicate human tutors by supporting the theory of “learning by doing.” Even though ITSs have been proven to be successful in academic studies, they still have not found large adoption by the industry due to the complexities of building such systems due to the high technical expertise and domain knowledge requirements. Attempts have been made to build authoring tools that can provide assistance in building tutoring systems; however, most of these tools are targeted toward authors that have considerable programming experience. This research proposes an authoring tool for ITS, which is targeted …
MAC Protocols for WuR Enabled WSNs : Design and Performance Evaluation
2017
Master's thesis Information- and communication technology IKT591 - University of Agder 2017 Increasing energy efficiency is a challenging task for protocol design in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) as well as in Internet of things (IoT). Traditionally, duty-cycled (DC) protocols have been widely adopted for data transmissions in WSNs for energy conservation by reducing idle listening and overhearing. Recently, wake-up radio (WuR) has merged as a promising technique to replace DC protocols thanks to its superior performance in both network lifetime and transmission latency. This thesis work focuses on the design and performance evaluation of WuR-enabled MAC protocols considering various traf…
Struggles for recognition: a content analysis of messages posted on the Internet

This study is part of a research project aiming to explore, describe, and analyze different discourses of mental health in Norway and Sweden, using material from Internet-based services.Aim: To examine messages posed by users of publicly available question-and-answer services and to descri…
Universally Designed Beacon-Assisted Indoor Navigation for Emergency Evacuations
2019
International audience; The United Nations (UN) Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) obligates national governments to ensure the protection and safety of persons with disabilities in emergency situations. This article examines the application and accessibility of state-of-the-art ICT solutions in emergency situations. Research has indeed shown that the design and implementation of evacuation procedures in emergency situations play a critical role in ensuring personal safety and protection. While research has examined the experiences of persons including persons with disabilities in emergency situations, research has yet to examine fully the role that cutting-edge in…
Semantic Description of IoT Security for Smart Grid
2017
Master's thesis Information- and communication technology IKT590 - University of Agder 2017 This research work proposed, developed and evaluated IoT Security ontology for smart home energy management system (SHEMS) in smart grids. The ontology description includes infrastructure, attacks, vulnerabilities and counter measures for the main components of SHEMS such as Smart Meter, Smart Appliance, Home Gateway, and Billing data. The ontology extends the SAREF energy management ontology with security features. We have two main reasons for selecting SAREF ontology to base our work on. First, SAREF is standardized by ETSI. Second, it is specifically designed for energy management and efficiency. …
