Real-Time Motion Compensation in Ship-to-Ship Load Handling

2019

Doktorgradsavhandling Like the automotive industry, the maritime industry is facing a higher demand for autonomous offshore operations. It is therefore in the author’s belief that the marine industry has to develop and implement new technology for both existing and new products to meet the increased autonomy demand. This thesis aims at presenting a unified understanding of the motions and the accompanying load handling issue in ship-to-ship operations. The ship-to-ship kinematics is modeled and a crane operator assistant is developed as a possible solution to increase the so-called weather window of ship-to-ship load transfers. The weather window is today determined by the significant wave …

ERP system implementation in small and medium-sized enterprises

2012

Doktorgradsavhandling i informasjonssystemer, Universitetet i Agder, Kristiansand, 2012 This thesis presents a study of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system implementation in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Compared to large enterprises, SMEs represent fundamentally different environments, with a number of characteristics typifying the SME context. Because of these distinguishing differences, the findings from studies of ERP implementation in large enterprises cannot be fully applied to SMEs. The purpose of this research project is to explore the influences of the SME context on the ERP system implementation, addressing the following overall research question: How does the S…

Exploring the link between ICT intervention and human development through a social capital lens : The case study of a wireless project in the mountai…

2012

Doctoral dissertation in information systems at the University of Agder, Kristiansand While it is generally accepted that information and communication technology (ICT) can lead to development, the process through which this may happen remains unclear. At the core of this debate is the very definition of the term ‘development’. In this thesis, I adopted Amartya Sen’s definition. According to Sen (1999), human development is built upon a particular capability approach. He inferred that human development is the enhancement of human capabilities (freedom of choice) in order that people can live a life which they value and have reasons to value. The capability approach has, however, been critic…

Tracking Maximum Produced Water Treatment Efficiency Using a Variable Speed Coalescing Centrifugal Pump : Doctoral Dissertation for the Degree Philos…

2019

Doktorgradsavhandling Produced water is the most significant by-product of petroleum production. Even though naturally occurring, the produced water poses substantial environmental impacts if not managed correctly, and it is often associated with large volumes and high handling costs. Oil removal is one of the primary goals of produced water treatment. The efficiency of the treatment equipment is usually highly sensitive to the oil droplet's size. Generally, the larger the droplets, the better the separation. Due to the importance of large oil droplets, droplet breakup in process equipment such as pumps and valves should be kept to a minimum. Recently, a novel coalescing multistage centrifu…

Two perspectives on e-learning design: A synopsis of a U. S. and a European analysis

2014

Published version of an article from the journal: International Review of Research in Open and Distance Learning. Also available from the publisher: http://www.irrodl.org/index.php/irrodl/article/view/1783 This article seeks to examine e-learning design arising from two educational traditions: the United States of America and Europe. The research question is: Broadly, what kinds of pedagogy, instructional design models, or didactical models are established and proposed for e-learning design on the two continents? Two researchers examined multiple articles and texts in an effort to discern the prominent approaches in their respective regions. The analysis is tripartite: First, the educationa…
