School in Italy: a safe place for children and adolescents

AbstractBackgroundDuring the first SARS-CoV-2 pandemic phase, the sudden closure of schools was one of the main measures to minimize the spread of the virus. In the second phase, several safety procedures were implemented to avoid school closure.To evaluate if the school is a safe place, students and staff of two school complexes of Rome were monitored to evaluate the efficacy of prevention measures inside the school buildings.MethodsOral secretions specimens were collected from 1262 subjects for a total of 3431 samples, collected over a 3 months period.Detection of Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 was performed by real-time PCR. An impaired peroxisomal targeting sequence leading to an unusual bicompartmental distribution of cytosolic epoxide hydrolase

AbstractTo gain an understanding of the mechanism by which the subcellular distribution of cytosolic epoxide hydrolase (cEH) is directed, we have analyzed the carboxy terminal region of rat liver cEH by means of cDNA cloning to define the structure of its possible peroxisomal targeting sequence (PTS). Purified cEH was subjected to peptide analysis following endoproteinase Glu-C digestion and HPLC-separation of the fragments. The obtained sequence information was used to perform PCR experiments resulting in the isolation of a 680 bp cDNA clone encoding the carboxy terminus of cEH. The major phenobarbital-inducible rat hepatic cytochromes P-450, CYP2B1 and CYP2B2, are the paradigmatic members of a cytochrome P-450 gene subfamily that contains at least seven additional members. Specific oligonucleotide probes for these genomic members of the CYP2B subfamily were used to assess their tissue-specific expression. Background This study examined the frequency of and differences in sedentary bouts of different durations and the total time spent in sedentary bouts on a weekday, a weekend day, during school hours, during after-school hours and in the evening period in a sample of 10- to 12-year-old Belgian children. Breeding state and season affect interspecific interaction types: indirect resource competition and direct interference.

Indirect resource competition and interference are widely occurring mechanisms of interspecific interactions. We have studied the seasonal expression of these two interaction types within a two-species, boreal small mammal system. Seasons differ by resource availability, individual breeding state and intraspecific social system. Live-trapping methods were used to monitor space use and reproduction in 14 experimental populations of bank voles Myodes glareolus in large outdoor enclosures with and without a dominant competitor, the field vole Microtus agrestis. Developmental dyslexia is a highly prevalent and specific disorder of reading acquisition characterised by impaired reading fluency and comprehension. We have previously identified fMRI- and ERP-based neural markers of impaired sentence reading in dyslexia that indicated both deviant basic word processing and deviant semantic incongruency processing. A historical case of beaten-copper cranium

The authors present the oldest historical case of a so-called beaten-copper cranium. The typical pattern was identified on a skull from a child, probably a boy, who died at approximately 6 years of age and was buried in a provisional cemetery used during the siege of Hanau, Germany, in 1635 and 1636. Morphological and radiological analyses of the severe digitate impressions ubiquitous on the child's endocranium support the diagnosis of chronically elevated intracranial pressure due to hydrocephalus.
