Mixed l-/l1 fault detection observer design for positive switched systems with time-varying delay via delta operator approach
2014
Published version of an article in the journal: International Journal of Control, Automation and Systems. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s12555-013-0466-1 This paper investigates the problem of fault detection observer design for positive switched systems with time-varying delay via delta operator approach. A new fault sensitivity measure, called l-index, is proposed. The l- fault detection observer design and multi-objective l -/l1 fault detection observer design problems are addressed. Based on the average dwell time approach and the piecewise copositive type Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional method in delta domain, sufficient conditions for the existence of …
Robust H∞ filter design for uncertain linear systems over network with network-induced delays and output quantization
2009
Article published in the journal: Modeling Identification and Control. Also available online from the publisher: http://dx.doi.org/10.4173/mic.2009.1.3 This paper investigates a convex optimization approach to the problem of robust H∞ filtering for uncertain linear systems connected over a common digital communication network. We consider the case where quantizers are static and the parameter uncertainties are norm bounded. Firstly, we propose a new model to investigate the effect of both the output quantization levels and the network conditions. Secondly, by introducing a descriptor technique, using Lyapunov- Krasovskii functional and a suitable change of variables, new required sufficient…
LMI-based H∞ synchronization of second-order neutral master-slave systems using delayed output feedback control
2009
Submitted version of an article published in the journal: International Journal of Control, Automation and Systems. The original publication is available at www.springerlink.com: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s12555-009-0306-5 The H∞ synchronization problem of the master and slave structure of a second-order neutral master-slave systems with time-varying delays is presented in this paper. Delay-dependent sufficient conditions for the design of a delayed output-feedback control are given by Lyapunov-Krasovskii method in terms of a linear matrix inequality (LMI). A controller, which guarantees H∞ synchronization of the master and slave structure using some free weighting matrices, is then develop…
Adaptive ML-based technique for renewable energy system power forecasting in hybrid PV-Wind farms power conversion systems
2022
Large scale integration of renewable energy system with classical electrical power generation system requires a precise balance to maintain and optimize the supply–demand limitations in power grids operations. For this purpose, accurate forecasting is needed from wind energy conversion systems (WECS) and solar power plants (SPPs). This daunting task has limits with long-short term and precise term forecasting due to the highly random nature of environmental conditions. This paper offers a hybrid variational decomposition model (HVDM) as a revolutionary composite deep learning-based evolutionary technique for accurate power production forecasting in microgrid farms. The objective is to obtai…
Hybrid Three-Phase Transformer-Based Multilevel Inverter With Reduced Component Count
2022
The topology of the static synchronous compensator of reactive power for a low-voltage three-phase utility grid capable of asymmetric reactive power compensation in grid phases has been proposed and analysed. It is implemented using separate, independent cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverters for each phase. Every inverter includes two H-bridge cascades. The first cascade operating at grid frequency is implemented using thyristors, and the second one—operating at high frequency is based on the high-speed MOSFET transistors. The investigation shows that the proposed compensator is able to compensate the reactive power in a low-voltage three-phase grid when phases are loaded by highly asymmet…
Real-Time Detection of Incipient Inter-Turn Short Circuit and Sensor Faults in Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Drives Based on Generalized Likelih…
2022
This paper presents a robust model-based technique to detect multiple faults in permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs), namely inter-turn short circuit (ITSC) and encoder faults. The proposed model is based on a structural analysis, which uses the dynamic mathematical model of a PMSM in an abc frame to evaluate the system’s structural model in matrix form. The just-determined and over-determined parts of the system are separated by a Dulmage–Mendelsohn decomposition tool. Subsequently, the analytical redundant relations obtained using the over-determined part of the system are used to form smaller redundant testable sub-models based on the number of defined fault terms. Furthermore, fo…

Design and Stiffness Analysis of a 5-axis Gantry-Tau Milling Machine
2018
Master's thesis Mechatronics MAS500 - University of Agder 2018 The Gantry-Tau is a Parallel Kinematic Machine (PKM) structure that possesses many advantages as a milling machine, where it has a low moving mass, high stiffness and a large workspace to footprint ratio. This thesis presents a new milling machine design based on this structure, as a continuation of a formerly constructed prototype, see [1]. This includes selection of new actuators for the linear drives as well as the development of a new tool platform and two joint concepts. A short workspace analysis is presented on the proposed design, which includes calculation of valid workspace and an analysis on the required joint mobilit…

Design, Modelling and Simulation of Electro-Hydraulic Self-Contained Cylinders based on Digital Hydraulics
2018
Master's thesis Mechatronics MAS500 - University of Agder 2018 Nowadays, hydraulic cylinders are mostly powered by a separate HPU and controlled by conventional servo and proportional valves. New trends have been under development the last years. The first trend is self-contained designs where the power unit is integrated in the cylinder design. Digital hydraulics is the second new trend where conventional flow control methods are replaced by simple ON/OFF valves and digital displacement pumps. A totally novel design would be a combination of the two mentioned trends. Designing a hydraulic cylinder that combines both the self-contained method and digital hydraulics is expected to results in…
