CAUSES AND CONSEQUENCES OF THE 2008-2009 INTERNATIONAL FINANCIAL CRISIS

2012

The paper investigates the current crisis and its major consequences in a shifting world. Originated from the USA, the crisis spread in the world and disturbed its power distribution. The emerging countries development of the last two decades illustrates the catching-up process. The findings also confirm the increased role of the Chinese economy today. The Chinese growth in comparison with the USA economic path is a mirror for the future world architecture. The consequences of the international financial crisis are focused on the fact that the developed countries will lose gradually their privileges in the shifting of economic power.

Global Divergence in Growth Regressions

2013

This paper extends the standard growth regression model by adding an assumption that a country follows the global technology frontier either fully or partially. This additional assumption changes significantly the growth regression model and its results in three main ways. First, it shows that although a country converges to its long-run growth path, this path can diverge from the countries at the global frontier. We measure the degree of divergence for each country and find that most indeed diverge from the frontier. Second, we estimate growth dynamics without controlling for additional variables. Third, our new method enables us to disentangle the effects of the explanatory variables on t…

The influence of culture on the economic freedom and the international business

2006

The firms who decide to expand their business in an international environment must modify their management style through international management. Certainly, international management must adapt their on functions to the different framework of the business development. The culture is a cardinally factor, being an essential component in the success equation of multinational companies. The culture, the habits and the attitudes became points of major interests on the global market. Their importance is obvious through numerous "blunders" which find out in international trade and international. For the success of international business the economies must bees free, but the economic freedom is inf…

Behavioral Profiling in Early Adolescence and Early Adulthood of Male Wistar Rats After Short and Prolonged Maternal Separation

2020

Early-life stress and its possible correlations to genes, environment, and later health outcomes can only be studied retrospectively in humans. Animal models enable the exploration of such connections with prospective, well-controlled study designs. However, with the recent awareness of replicability issues in preclinical research, the reproducibility of results from animal models has been highlighted. The present study aims to reproduce the behavioral effects of maternal separation (MS) previously observed in the multivariate concentric square fieldTM (MCSF) test. A second objective was to replicate the adolescent behavioral profiles previously described in the MCSF test. Male rats, subjec…

The Development and Precision of a Custom-Made Skitester

2021

In the sport of cross-country skiing, equipment has a direct influence on results. Ski teams do extensive testing of different ski base grinds and products on a yearly basis. To achieve reliable results, the quality of methods used for testing skis needs to be taken in to account in addition to factors including the physical characteristics of testing personnel and changes in weather conditions. The aim of this study was to introduce a custom-made skitester, that was developed for testing skis on real snow, in laboratory conditions, and to evaluate its precision. The current skitester is capable of glide testing both classic and skate skis as well as kick simulation for the testing of grip …

Brain Responses to Letters and Speech Sounds and Their Correlations With Cognitive Skills Related to Reading in Children

2018

Letter-speech sound (LSS) integration is crucial for initial stages of reading acquisition. However, the relationship between cortical organization for supporting LSS integration, including unimodal and multimodal processes, and reading skills in early readers remains unclear. In the present study, we measured brain responses to Finnish letters and speech sounds from 29 typically developing Finnish children in a child-friendly audiovisual integration experiment using magnetoencephalography. Brain source activations in response to auditory, visual and audiovisual stimuli as well as audiovisual integration response were correlated with reading skills and cognitive skills predictive of reading…

Psychometric properties of observational tools for identifying motor difficulties – a systematic review

2019

Abstract Background Early identification of children with motor difficulties, such as developmental coordination disorder (DCD), is essential. At present only a fraction of children with DCD are identified. The purpose of the study was to systematically review the literature from 1994 to 2017 on observational screening tools and to evaluate the validity, reliability and usability of the questionnaires used. Methods The review of the literature was conducted to synthesize the data from five electronic databases for children aged 6–12 years. The following databases were searched: Academic search Elite (EBSCO), ERIC (ProQuest), MEDLINE (Ovid), PsycINFO (ProQuest), and SPORTDiscus with Full Tex…

The Two-Systems Account of Theory of Mind: Testing the Links to Social- Perceptual and Cognitive Abilities

2018

According to the two-systems account of theory of mind (ToM), understanding mental states of others involves both fast social-perceptual processes, as well as slower, reflexive cognitive operations (Frith and Frith, 2008; Apperly and Butterfill, 2009). To test the respective roles of specific abilities in either of these processes we administered 15 experimental procedures to a large sample of 343 participants, testing ability in face recognition and holistic perception, language, and reasoning. ToM was measured by a set of tasks requiring ability to track and to infer complex emotional and mental states of others from faces, eyes, spoken language, and prosody. We used structural equation m…

John Edgar Wideman, lecteur-archiviste de Frantz Fanon

2017

This article intends to read Fanon, a Novel, written in 2008 by John Edgar Wideman, as an attempt to decolonize the archive, more specifically the Fanonian archive. Rather than trying to exhume the legacy of the Martiniquan thinker, the novel proposes to set Fanon’s thought in motion, allowing it to unfold before the reader’s eyes. Thus summoned up, the archive assumes an eminently political role. No longer an origin in a teleological narrative, it can only be apprehended by a text that deliberately practices generic blurring and intermingling as a mode of writing. In Fanon, a Novel, the intersection between fiction and the archive serves as a productive space where national and colonial gr…
